Wind/rain deflectors

Are these things a one size fits all or do you trim them down to fit your vehicle?  Any recommendations for a specific brand?

They are vehicle specific, no trimming required.  I am a fan of the weathertech ones.  They stick inside the window channel and are not held on by double sided tape.  They cost about $10 more but are worth it in my book.

are you talking about the ones on the front windows? they are vehicle specific. a tip, the plastic window guards are NOT off road friendly. if you are getting desert pin stripping the plastic wind/rain deflectors will not stay on. highdesertranger

I'm actually wantin to put them in my camry so front and back seat windows.

What is desert pin stripping?

desert pin stripping is all the little scratches on the paint of vehicles that drive off road in the desert. the less traveled the road the more the vegetation closes in on it. some of the rubbing actually sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard. sometimes especially in the scrub pine transition zone you will have actual tree branches rubbing the sides, ouch. they can do damage, I have broken a rear door window. but back to those rain guards I have the metal ones on my 78 Chevy never had a problem with those. I also had the plastic ones on my 01 Ford. notice I said had, the bush was always popping them off. I would just go pick them up and stick them back on. then one day I lost the passenger side and didn't realize it so that one was gone. then a branch broke the driver side one so now I have none. highdesertranger

I have had vent visors on my cars for more years than I can remember, Love them!

Yes they are vehicle specific and and a piece of cake to install.

I've used the self-adhesive visors for the last 20 years on 2 cars, including my current Prius. I love them and haven't had any problems with brush taking them off. Although, I'm sure my Prius' desert pin stripping would never measure up to HDR's

I've been told the stick-on ones are better than the insert-in-window-channel types as they don't scratch up your window tint (?)

I chose the in channel type and have never been happier!

I also discovered that the mosquitoes (at least Ontario mosquitoes... ) don't seem to be able to navigate under the rain deflector and then up and through the window opening. I was amazed at this because the little buggers find me if I'm within a 100 yds of their home!

The in channel ones I got had two sided tape on them that needed to be held in place by the window for the first 24 hours. I installed them in Yuma last winter and haven't had any trouble with them.


So far so good with the brush striping but I'm sure it's only a matter of time...my Safari had major striping before it got a paint job thanks to the moose encounter! I call it brush striping because I get on to narrow single lane overgrown roads no matter where I am....

Got them for front and back windows. They are vehicle specific and, even living in AZ right now, I LOVE them. I tend to crash in the car on road trips between my place and family/friends places so being able to crack the windows enough for ventilation is great. Even when it miserable hot, I can open all four windows a bit and, with windshield shades, the car is great!
OH, and got the Ventvisor brand from O'Reillys. Had them on the car for two years, most of it sitting in the AZ sun. No problems with the adhesive.

As everyone else has said, vehicle specfic. Amazon, stick on type. I then drilled holes and used 3 self tapping screws to ensure that they stay on. And as my minivan is white, plastidip coated them white. Protects the plastic from UV degradation and makes them blend in nicely.

Was just looking at these. Ran into a situation where it was raining out as I was falling asleep so I closed my windows only for it to get uncomfortably warm and a tad humid inside my car. So I had to pick between that or letting a little rain in which wasn't fun. I've looked at prices for rain guards/deflectors and they are like 30-40 bucks which I feel is too high. I'm going to try make my own with some materials I have. Best idea I have so far is cutting strips out of plastic milk gallon jug, tapping them together length wise, and inserting them up into the window rubber carriage like you see when inserting some deflectors. I've also thought about using tin foil but I'd have to see. All I need is something simple to use only when it's raining and I'm sleeping so this shouldn't be too difficult.
