I subscribe to a list serve that looks like it's on its way out. Only because it's an outdated way  to share info, especially with the allstays app. I like to know what the other dude if the fender thinks, so to speak. I thought these two posts were particularly interesting, so what do you think- are there really folks doing as accused, or is it an exaggeration of a lifestyle by people who really don't know?

In my attempt to remove the image that talked about California politics,I removed both images. My apologies.
Please remember politics are not allowed on the forum.

#1-Over generalization. Somewhat true but just another harmful stereotype.

#2-City problems do exist. No surprise there. What info or proof are they citing that "so many Walmart locations" elsewhere aren't allowing ONP?

If you search hard enough on the internet, you will find people saying anything.

People in rural areas mistrust those in the urban areas.  WORLDWIDE.

People engage in criminal behavior EVERYWHERE.

The rich mistrust the poor, and the poor mistrust the rich ~~~

Shall I go on?

Vehicle dwellers tend to police themselves.  If there are those behaving badly, they are encouraged to move on so that they do not draw negitive attention to the rest.  If you park in an area where black tank dumping is happening, expect the powers that run the town to rapidly blame all.

We have wheels, and can use them.

Those are all my thoughts, too- but I didn't realize that other rvers had such low opinions of anyone not driving new and fancy.
I'm in Nevada and it's hot. The other day I asked about how done boondockers were staying cool, and the answer was pretty negative- which may or may not be true.
On another note, I'm staying at an RV park while I'm working August through May, and my insurance company wanted to cancel my insurance because they didn't like the address. I didn't tell them it was an rv park, and they changed their mind once I reminded them that I had been a customer since 2004!

I'm confused. Who did you ask this question of and got a negative answer? And it may or not be true that it was negative?

I was at the dealership and from there you can see a few people boondocking in the desert. I asked salesman how he thought they were staying cool- he said drugs- I would think probably a generator...

Why on earth would you keep your insurance notified of your current location? I only would give that if I had a claim, otherwise only gave my permanent address when signing up.

Transients aren't new, they exist in all 50 states and always will. Towns/cities can make all the laws they want, you can't regulate anything or anyone from existence.

I bought a different vehicle and they asked for my address. I have the same one on my drivers license. For now, it's my permanent address and the dept of vehicles didn't have an issue with it.
I do tend to make mistakes, but I didn't think that was one of them.
I really thought I was doing the right thing- so if one no longer lives in a sticks and bricks house, what address can a person use for a permanently address that is acceptable?

Maildrops, AKA mail forwarding services.

MBE got bought by UPS, but small mom&pops are usually better and cheaper, local to your favored jurisdiction for registration, tax purposes etc. Just look for long-term stability.

All topics worth starting a new specific thread.

For several decades now I've never tied my physical location to my name in anybody's computer system. Nothing shady, just learned that discretion is the better part of valor.

The only way I would ever camp at Wallyworld is if it was the last place on earth, sorry

When we have traveled the east coast, we have overnighted at Walmarts in North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Maine. Only one time was it a bit sketchy, but when my dogs barked, the people who parked to close to us in the middle of the night-left. We were in a cargo trailer. I was on my way somewhere and would stop when I was tired of driving. In Georgia we stayed at a Cracker Barrel. Always with permission.
So, before I knew about this site and all the resources, that's what we did.

Whoops! Tried to remove one of the images because it was political, ended up removing both.

Sure wish you'd find a way to give negative points there Cyndi.... :D

Now I've gone and missed the links entirely... :p

Something to keep in mind Valerie is that anyone who is not knowledgeable about living free and clear of mortgages and debts in general has NO knowledge of how it is done and how wonderful a lifestyle it is. Most people shun anyone who doesn't live the exact same life that they do.

Try living in a small southern town and not going to church - ha - big outcast. I could go on and on for paragraphs but basically it all comes down to anything that is different is suspect. That happens even in the animal world btw.

I don't think it was about politics, more philosophical, in that it was saying that west coast politics create problems. I've lived on the west coast and the east coast and I'm pretty sure they all contribute to problems. I interpreted it to say that the problems occur when people let other people live as they wish with fewer rules governing them. My interpretaion could be wrong. The other snapshot was from a person who thinks that there are too many rundown rvs parking where they shouldn't- it even went on to say that those run down rvs are dumping their black tanks on the streets. I shared it because I think it was terribly biased and probably greatly exaggerated, but that is apparently what some people think.

Almost There- It's sad that people can't accept different lifestyles. What's worse though, is that some who full time in rvs think it's ok to look down their noses at others whose rig may not have cost an arm and a leg.

I'm living in a town where there are hundreds of people living full time in rvs, yet even some of my co-workers think I'm a little off because I am choosing not to live in a sticks and bricks house anymore.

Well it certainly happens as I've seen it in different parts of the country. In cities it's just likely to be worse. The bad economy's effects and broke folks with leaky tanks can excuse some of it but a lot of it is done by people who just don't care and will choose the easiest and/or cheapest way to dump.

So maybe not an exaggeration... I've never seen it, and that's why I distrusted the perspective behind the post I shared.
