Why Are Many Modern Motorhomes So Damn Ugly...

I blame the Europeans. These days it seems all car, van and RV manufacturers are trying their dangdest to emulate the "Euro" design themes.
Why can't we have a really nice stylish and practical RV like the old classic GMC Motorhome. That was a beauty! Some of the molded fiberglass Winnies are nice too. Streamlined, but not copying someone else across the Big Water.
And if you don't like the graphics, a little elbow grease and the right tools will take them off. Repaint what you like.

I don't find them ugly actually but would rather have one without the typical graphics. For now my '77' 6 Metre Minuet painted plain is good enough for weekend use.

Modern RVs are ugly because a majority of the population are, too. If you can't see the similarity between modern RV graphics and the totally over tribal tattoo craze -- now very much passe -- you are blind. And there's the rub. RV dealers are selling to old people. They are mainly blind, legally or otherwise. They also might have a grand-nephew with graphics similar to the RV they are considering indelibly marked into their skin and somehow think that the graphics on their impending purchase are "hip," "trendy," or otherwise popular.

We should not fault them for this or blame their style/design ignorance. Society is to blame. They know not what they do. And it's not like the tribal tattooed RV dealers -- if you don't see a visible tattoo, they are covering it up... -- are going to argue against the trend. However, since they continue to sell RVs with hideous graphics which are inspired by decade's old tatoo design, it reinforces their unfounded view that they are still hip, relevant. In that way, both purchasers and sellers are deluded by The RV Exterior Vinyl Industrial Complex, or TREVIC. When really, it's an algorithm based on the TREVIC-R&D'd basis for conditioned cultural response, everyone looking to feel younger than they are, and as minimal graphics as they can get away with.

Careful, RV shoppers, next stop is Nu(umlaut)-Skool...

Do we get to vote on who is the KING of what is ugly and pretty? Or is it strictly a self-appointed position.

ROTFLMAO

*whew*. Thanks for that. As one of the legally or otherwise blind old folks, I have to be careful 'bout laughing that hard. Might get a strike or something.

I've got this sudden urge for a tribal tattoo...

Self-appointed. If you are a tribal-tattooed RV dealer, no need to change up current graphics trend...

I kid, of course, thanks for getting it...

Really wish there was better graphics. Even simple scallops, or old school racing stripes would be better than the current hideous, 10-20 years behind the times tribal abstractions.

Haha, I'm glad you're all having fun with this...

In Tucson, I wouldn't be surprised if they start putting skulls on the RVs. There are skulls frikkin everywhere in Tucson. If I never see a skull again, it will be too soon.

I remember the vans of the 1970's. Now THAT was graphics! My complaint is no imagination. But I'm not buying a stick-&-staples (or foam-&-fiberglass) manufactured RV. I will stick to my non-conforming turquoise blue skoolie conversion.

I think some graphics are ok, some not so much, it is very difficult to do something with a big white shoe box, even if it has a few aero indents at the front, I think the industry  is missing the opportunity, to improve fuel efficiency by constantly making a straight sided squared back box, I know the modern engines are very efficient but I bet if they tried they could be in the high 30 mpg by now if they took advantage of windtunnels and were ready to complicate the build inside with round tops and sides and tear drop tails. Granted they have made them look nice inside especially the Europeans but they are still square bricks, so not much has changed in the last 50 years other then a few almost useless swirls on the front of the sleepers. I think some of them are attractive but to be honest I would be a little embarrassed to drive one, knowing the cost of them.

I grew up with an early 70s Dodge Travco. It was forest green with a white stripe going along the entire thing. Looked like a giant green and white hotdog. It was so cool...
