How about a parcel about 50' x 50' -- just big enough for my van and some walking around space? :D

Cerro Gordo is very cool, but 1 million bucks it ain't that special. read the history of Cerro Gordo, during it's heyday they couldn't haul the partially smelted silver/lead ingots off the mountain fast enough. the ingots were stacked up like cordwood. miners actually built shelters out of the ingots. imagine living in a house made out of silver bricks. fascinating history as is with most ghost. highdesertranger

Once we get all the shareholders on board, deeds transfered and (minimal) government established, I'm sure selling or leasing tiny lots could be considered.

Taking care of poo processing facilities has to be solved though, at least enough to satisfy the state.

A trailer park for transients would probably be sustainable too.

Barely gets you a decent S&B on an acre many parts of the country, we're talking a whole self-governing town here!

Maybe they'd take 7-800 grand if in cash waved under their nose

Oh man, I'd take it if I could. I haven't made it up to Cerro Gordo but I've spent a lot of time in the area and always heard great things about the town. Fingers crossed it stays accessible to the public.

Most people willing to spend a mill aren't all **that** public spirited.

Unless the gov were willing to take it on, then might make for a sweet tax deduction.

that's the shortest route by miles. the road is rough and real steep in places can I say extremely steep. there is another road in and out much less steep but still real rough. I would not take street tires on either one. I got 2 flats within 30 minutes on the longer road and I was running BFG mud terrains at the time. highdesertranger

Oh Mr Ranger, can I pull my 38' travel trailer up that road using my Kia SUV?

I cannot say about that road, but the road near Big Pine that goes up White Mtn from the south is limestone slabs, and the rangers warn you about taking your car beyond the visitor center and up the 12 miles to the Patriarch Grove. A guy passed me while I was poodling along, and a mile later he stopped to change a tire. Limestone slabs eat tires. Here: 37.385634, -118.178885 and here: 37.527896, -118.197880

what about the road up from Bishop via Silver Canyon, not for the faint of heart. highdesertranger

I haven't spent a lot of time in that area, except the usual places. I'll probably not take my van up Silver Canyon (see pic, upper end of canyon).

I was planning to head down to Yosemite/Tioga Pass for a few days (not been there in 30 years), but a fire sprung up just this past weekend. July = foo in the west.

Making the target market 1%ers makes a lot of sense.

No big downturn when the next big "market adjustment" wipes out the plebes.
