I'm a Facebook addict. All my friends live there.

I'm on FB, but i hardly ever go there
sometimes I'll get a message in my email 'X has posted something on FB' and I'll look, if it interests me I'll comment, if not I move on
I rarely post there

There is a setting in FB where you can choose to view just friends and family, just people in your neighborhood, just ones at your job, etc. You could toggle back and forth between the different groups, to be efficient and prioritize your FB time.

You can create "close friends" and "family" groups when using facebook on the computer (as opposed to the phone).  On the left hand side of the screen, scroll down to where it says "Friends" and then chose the option for either "close friends" or "family".  It lets you create a custom group of who you want to see posts from.
Then when you visit facebook, you can click on the link to "family" (or whatever) and it will show you only the posts from your selected group.

I've dived my friends into different groups like that, very helpful for being able to find the things I want to read each day.
