How sad. A nut job making a bad name for everyone on many different levels.
-Bruce

Well this can't help our ability to cross borders...LOL. Especially in white vans.....yikes. I wonder if they had discovered he was carrying a gun and trying to cross into Canada and he panicked....it would be interesting to know the whole story....

Bri

Thanks for the story mockturtle.....I wish it said more but they probably don't know more.
Bri

You can say that again! I wouldn't want the Canadian border patrol to assume that all people who travel in white vans are "bad people" who carry guns and take shots at the Border patrol guards. To say the least that would make crossing into Canada rather interesting. I wouldn't want to be the person driving a white van with a border guard who was having a bad day. Could get interesting!

This is one of the reasons why I'm not 100% certain I'll be carrying a firearm when I hit the road. In the states I'm fine with a firearm. If I had the urge to visit Canada or Mexico I'd have a rather interesting problem when the border guard would ask me, "Hello sir, do you have anything to declare?" Hmm...

@Pikachu,

I Have crossed into and out of Canada many, many times through out the years and when I lived in Alaska drove up and down the Alcan and Cassiar many times. When I crossed into Canada this summer with my sidecar rig, I have never been put through the hassle as I was then.

Keep in mind I am an old guy...no threat to anyone. I was interrogated by flak jacketed hardheads for twenty minutes or so...kinda like coming back into the States...some of our own medicine I guess...what a royal PITA!

I won't go into the gun thing since there is a thread or two for that. Suffice to say that Canada and Mexico both have harsh rules about them and you really don't want to be caught with an undeclared gun in either country. I can say with certainty that in Mexico or any Central American country if the Federales or military finds anything at all related to gun ownership,,,even an empty shell, holster, gun cleaning kit...anything, you will have your vehicle impounded until they are satisfied you don't have anything else aboard and are very likely to be ejected from the country.

That is the main reason I never allow any firearm in my rig.....if I want to go shooting, I put EVERYTHING related into a tote and keep it in there and be sure to remove it at home....I cross too many borders to take any chances at all.....I don't call being a slave to my firearms, freedom in any way, shape or form.
bri
