I don't think it's anything nefarious. Someone likely forgot to load the National Parks data set into the latest update.

Technomadia has a phone app called Public Lands. It overlays various public land jurisdictions (you can choose which ones) over Google Maps. They admit, though, that there are some accuracy limitations, so you should cross-reference with other sources when it looks like you're barely within public land.

Google maps shows the green spaces just fine for me. So maybe fixed already? I looked up the allegany national forest and it shows up right where it's supposed to be. Same with all the green space in Colorado.

That is good to know, perhaps it is fixed up now.  *shrugs* was weird to see at the time though.

The Allegheny National Forest is back where it should be. They probably just misplaced it somewhere in California or New Mexico.

Google Maps makes mistakes. In Tacoma, WA, they had the Amtrak and BNSF RR buildings switched for a long time. I finally told them, and it was fixed in a day.

They gotta get those guys off the video games!
