I know it has been an extremely harsh winter for many of you and I'm sure you are longing for it to finally come to an end. Hang in there, it can't last forever!! :p

Maybe it will help to daydream a little about your summer plans for 2014! In that spirit I want to start a thread for our summer plans. I'll go first.

Judy and I are going to spend this summer in Alaska! I lived there for over 40 years until I retired and left in 2006. I still have a son who lives in Anchorage so I want to go back and visit with him. But even more importantly I lived and raised a family there so I never did the normal tourist things that everyone else does, so on this trip I am going to do them all!!

1) Take a flight-seeing trip over Mt. Mckinley and land on a glacier
2) Take a fly-in bear-viewing/photography tour.
3) Drive the Dalton Highway
4) Fly into Barrow and photograph the midnight sun.
5) Run a Class 4-5 river.
6) Skydive Alaska!

My timeline
1) Enter Canada in late May from Great Falls Montana
2) Enter Alaska in early to mid-June
3) Roam Alaska and leave in late July.
4) Enter Washington state by August 1.
5) Spend August exploring Washington
6) September work our way down the Sierras or Rockies toward Arizona.

So there you have it my plans for summer. So I want to hear all about yours!

Here is a map of my trip;

I'm going to pretty much stay put in Florida so as to not be burning a lot of fuel and wasting energy.

Looks like you have a full summer planned. We close on the house on the 31st and head to Columbia, TN for Mule Days. After that, we start heading west. That's as far as our planning has gotten. Sometime in the fall, we will be at the Grand Canyon. We will probably (but not definitely) winter in Quartzite, just because we have read so much about it. We'd originally thought about wintering in southern CA.

Bob, that should be an exciting trip.

Margie has seen very little of our nation, so we're going to head across into N. Mexico after visiting Tombstone and Bisbee, Az area. We'll wander north and take in some of Colorado. By late fall we'll swing down to Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and slowly head back south for winter. We might go to Yuma instead of Q.

Leaving Q in a few days and will stop over in Tucson at the VA for a check up and get my inhaler meds refilled for travel. Since its basically homebase we've lots of old friends to see there too.

a slow New england Round robbin for me......end of march Im heading for Tenn. then down thru the Va. ....then head north For Bar harbor Maine......finish the year off in St. Augustine fla. this year!!!

I'm gonna be putting ALOT of miles on this coming summer...but almost all of 'em will be on my chopper. One trip alone may end up being over 10K! Woo-Hoo!!!!

I'm sure we'll be playing around Oregon, camping in the RV with the grandkids this summer too.

What about spring break?

I'm going to a 200+ acre ranch bordering Yosemite in april.

Summer, might go to Hawaii with family, if not then San Diego then Baja/Rosarita beach.

However... I've heard if I go to Mexico and plan to buy gas there I've heard I'll need to get ocatane booster fuel additives, and a different kind of fuel filter (?) anybody else heard if this is correct?

BTW bob, I assume for McKinley your headed to Talkeetna AK?

few notes, Talkeetna has an awesome mountian climber's musiem with a highly detailed minature Mckinley mountian range model (and grave yard) there... but be wary of the locals around there... had a guy in a hell's angels jacket see my reverse camera on my RV and tell me he knew I was really an informant or working with the police, or feds, and if my RV was parked there overnight that night it would mysteriously "catch fire" (then a homeless guy who kept the park clean in exchange for handouts threatened him with a hatchet and told him to quit scaring tourists!) was a really weird little town.

I followed the gulf shore this winter and I'm in the south east, now. I'll head up to New England in a few weeks and enjoy another New England summer. I am seriously going to force myself to leave in mid September so I can take the northern route out west and FINALLY get back to the PNW before heading for the desert.

This summer I'll be taking some shorter trips out of my home base in Washington State, including camping with my grandsons (6, 8, 11 yo ... one at a time :) ), and riding Amtrak roundtrip from Seattle to Havre, MT as a volunteer NPS Ranger (providing narration for passengers). Hubby's a hotrod nut; so, I'll be going to car shows with him (maybe in our RV). Hopefully, we'll also be hosting some VanDwellers during their travels in Western Washington. Finally, I'll continue to downsize my possessions, scan pictures/documents, and simplify. It's sounding like a full summer.

Right now tho', I'm about as far as I can get from my home base in Washington and still be in the Lower 48. While it's cold wet weather in WA, it's in the 80s and clear skies here in the Florida Keys!

Suanne ... who would love to be going to AK this summer too

Working in Mt Hood NF again, 60 miles SE of Portland, OR. Let me know if you want to come for a visit on your way down the Cascades.

My two sons want Alaska. seriously thinking about it without the TT, I think the E350xl bubble top can handle 3 guys that know each other really well Maybe a small cargo trailer easy pull for the "stuff" no plans yet. This time not too much junk in the trunk HaHa. Is diesel more costly in Canada like it is here?

Adrian, Sounds like a great trip with your sons, hope you all 3 can pull it off.
I'm doing short runs while trying to pare everything down and sell the house I live in. I'm doing a "Chasing Flowers Tour Of 2014" Sounds big and important huh? I'm actually using this time and limited get a ways to try out living on the road and making money. The second picture is how I plan to spend my evenings.

I am taking two motorcycle trips; one to Johnson City Tennessee and another to Prescott Arizona.

Otherwise I'm knocking out the overtime to contribute to my retirement.....
