Hi everyone!  I'm trying to work out all the kinks so I can take this show on the road.  Because I plan on keeping my full time job, having consistent wifi is very important to my success.  Where would I find information regarding WIFI availability in areas?  I understand that I'll need a hotspot with boosters but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the uncertainty of being able to do my job.

I appreciate any insight or advice!

Thanks!

Annie

Verizon and AT&T have the best coverage with their cheaper prepaid plans having less coverage.

Near major roads and towns for coverage and if you want to get further out a cell phone booster (weboost). Go to the communications threads to read up more: https://vanlivingforum.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=14

Oh and welcome, I'm in Texas too.

Starbucks, McDonalds, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, local libraries, truck stops, local coffee shops etc.

Many or most of these have public wifi signals that will work just fine in the parking lot.

As Tx says, there is a lot of free wifi in towns (if this is where you want to be). If you go this route, I suggest a hi gain wifi antenna for your setup. Some establishments signal doesn't go very far.

Get an app that shows where towers are. What you will see like everyone else already said....towers are clustered along major highways and towns. Stay within 15 miles of any town and youll never be without.

If you use or get a hotspot device, sometimes called jetpack or a variety of manufacturer names, and the device has 2 ports for external antenna, look at the Netgear MIMO antenna for less that $35 (Amazon). It often helps greatly, usually better than a WeBoost. Does not work with a phone and some locations the device/jetpack works best alone. You have to test in each location.

There is a FB group ‘Internet for RVers’ you might want to check. They have bunches of free ‘booklets’ of information. There is no one solution nor an easy fix.

Don't depend upon the state parks for free wifi. I've been to 9 parks in three years and none had it.

do mean wifi or a cell phone signal? I can't imagine having to work off of wifi. highdesertranger
