I’ve looked everywhere in California. The problem is you can’t buy a vehicle from outside the state if you plan to live, insure and travel here. Our emissions are the strictest and we have to test every other year. They make RVs (no, all vehicles) specifically to pass in California. There is no way I’m paying a ridiculous/unfair/jacked up price. I’ll just wait. Like housing when everyone was flipping houses (until it became too expensive) now they are flipping RVs. I see lots of super expensive brand new class b RVs parked in peoples’ driveways. I know they will get tired of them. But how low the prices will go is debatable.

this simply isn't true. you can bring vehicles into California and register them here and insure them here. also not all areas of California have emission testing.

I already posted about this after researching it. There are 3 places within zip codes- not even cities or counties just spots that are exempt. The rest of the state complies.
Sorry but you are wrong. I started driving in California in 1977. You can’t register a car without a smog check. There is some exemption for certain very old vehicles. But once again: You are incorrect. You can own an out of state vehicle if you are not a resident and don’t plan to stay long. In the 70’s people were buying cars in Oregon and they got wise to that and stopped it. Then of course they implemented the emission regulations. I called Midwest Passage and asked how I could buy a Class B and they said they the produce RVs for California and work with local dealers to sell them. As do all other vehicle manufacturers. I’m not going to keep posting the same DMV regulations over and over you can look at my old post or look it up yourself.
Additionally my father is a retired product liability personal injury trial attorney whose biggest client was American Honda. We have discussed this ad infinitum.

Indeed, my van is a 1990 and I just had to have it smogged to renew last month, as in 2018. I may eventually register and insure it in a different state, since I plan to travel. But I’m on a share insurance plan now and no discounts compare to my current rate of $200/year. I think the cut off is 40-45 years. When I was looking in 2016-17, people would mention in ads if a vehicle was smog exempt. They were early 70s.

Around here (St Louis area) a big Class A camper is WAY cheaper than a van sized Class B. I don't get it, but it is what it is in the market.
Maybe less of them for sale??

I think it’s a combination of build quality and size. My van fees huge next to my Kia Soul, but at 19’, it fits into a standard space.

That said, I have a 1990 Airstream B190 and saw prices from the $6500 I paid, up to $35k (they were all made 1989-99). Granted, the higher end often had 4x4 conversions, and sometimes updated kitchen, floors, and/or solar. I wanted and bought an ugly duckling. It was hard to find any van in CA under $10k then. Hadn’t looked to see how the pandemic would exaggerate prices. Maybe I should sell...
