Old habits die hard. I pop out of bed like toast out of a toaster. Getting up early is grand, late to bed eludes me. 8 to 9 is my go to bed time I love a good sunrise but at 4 AM gotta wait 3 hours (drum roll please) One way I found helps is watching a movie that will keep me up until 10 to 11 PM 2x1tb ssd loaded with movies do come to the rescue If any of you deal with this how do you do it without movies, not a huge movie fan

Nows your chance to become a certified star gazer!

The best time to watch the stars is between 4am and dawn!

I love me some cool meteor showers!!! :D

Haw yey, positive. Wyoming at 4 AM at 8850 ft. Wrapped in a wool blanket too cold to make coffee but what a sky. State parks were empty/closed for the most part so free it be. I usually leave 5 bucks kinda like a tip.

Patrick is right...it is the best time for stargazing. I am up before sunrise every morning. It is a wonderful time to have a cup of coffee and think about things. When the sun rises, my dog and I go for a walk. Also local news on the Television will tell you of events in your area. So many wonderful events like the Tamale Festival in Somerton, AZ and the Farmer's Market in Cortez and Dolores, Colorado...many other events too. Weather is best told by local newscasters. Just my ideas!

ROFL @ gsfish!

Early mornings are the best! It's a whole new day with endless possibilities. No TV, no computer (except what *may* be available on my phone, *if* it's charged), no movies, maybe a book on my ereader *if* it's charged. So first, make coffee no matter what it takes. Outside to see what can be seen in the pitch dark. Often, just sit and think shallow thoughts or not think at all. Check out maps, maybe make a plan. Most likely not.

Mostly, just breathe the peace. While stargazing, of course.

I normally get up at 4:15am for work, so no biggie for me. I'm usually sleep deprived and there are days I wonder how I'm able to get through.

When I worked, I normally got up at 5:30AM, so if I awoke at 4AM, it was usually best to stay up, and I'd surf the Net.
Now retired, I take gsfish's good advice! :)

Being a night person; if I am up at 4 AM it is because I was pulling an all-nighter (accidentally or not) -- Spiff

In order to stay up later at night, instead of watching a movie, I lay on my lounger outside and watch the stars till 10pm or so. Good time to sit and think and make plans for the next day.
I have no problem being up at 3:30 or 4am, plenty to do then, check out the news on the net or walk a little under the stars, best time of day in my opinion.

When you're tired at night, find something to keep you awake for three more hours.

Again thanks for all the input. I guess it was the 30 and below temps in the above 8k ft that had me huddled inside my metal warrior, I did ponder the universe wrapped in wool. Hey Graybeard are you planning to come out west?

Rereading your OP, I guess my post wasn't really helpful. Duh.

Not sure what's available to you, but if I get sleepy early, I take a shower. - even a wash up,,or washing my hair helps. A cup of coffee. Go for a walk. These help me stay awake (used to go to bed early and up at 4:30 am for w*&k). Took awhile to change my sleep habits.

Not a movie fan anymore - stories all seem the same. I read a lot of free ebooks. Check iout the news of the day. Social media time. Solitaire, if nothing else. Ever try writing something? A good time to blog or journal. Take up poetry lol. Star gazing was mentioned. Crossword puzzles. Ever try drawing? A lot of inexpensive hobbies one can do inside a vehicle at night.

If you can't sleep in the morning, especially in cold, can you get dressed warmly and walk? Get warm via the exercise and, and maybe get back to sleep in an hour or so. Depends on where you're parked, I suppose. Sometimes my joints get achy and moving around, or even just up and stretching, helps out.

Tai chi outside the vehicle? Doesn't take much room and is good for you.

I don't have what you might call a sleep schedule anymore...usually up by 5 am tho. When I'm tired I sleep and when my body hurts from laying in bed, I get up and fix coffee and read whatever book I'm into at the time. (usually something like Clive Cussler, Tony Hillerman, or the like).

I tried a friend's e-reader and found that I still like to turn pages of a book. Trading books at senior centers is sort of a social thing for me I guess.
