On the road for summer
I'm an old school guy who believes in using water pump lube as it will extend the life of your engine's water pump. Its a product that is hard to find anymore and most will say that anti freeze has it in it already.
Napa auto parts carries the lube in a pint bottle for under 4 bucks. Its a dern good investment considering the cost and hassle of replacing a pump along the road.

I had an old Ford truck that the pump was "singing" before adding the lube and I got another 15000 miles out of it before it finally died quietly.

I remember water pump lube. I used to use it on occasion too. Whenever I thought about it, that is.
Probably not a bad idea.
-Bruce

Urban Myth.

I sold auto parts for twenty years.

The bearings in water pumps are packed with grease and sealed by the factory.

NOTHING in your radiator, not water, not anti-freeze, nothing you can add, ever reaches them.

If it could, it would wash the grease out of the bearings.

John
That's only because you didn't torque them to spec.
-Bruce

Very appropriate, from Lucas, The Prince of Darkness.
-Bruce

The metal expands when hot, so ya gotta run your engine for a good 10-15 min. before torquing down them muffler bearings. Some say that 5 min is good enuf.. but, when them babies start a'squealing, you'll wish ya listened to ol' Willy. Also, initially torque it down halfway, in a star pattern, then to full specs with a reversed star pattern (prevents stress fracturing from unequal carbon buildup, with a concurrent localized increase in heat, causing the metal to crystallize) . ..Willy.

Yup, TBA (tires, batteries, accessories) sales could put some good coin in the pocket of a jockey that hussled.
I worked in a Texaco for a while years back.

Hope all is well on the ranch my friend ;-)
