We have been staying with friends in Nederland CO for the summer. It is a detached rental house with a decent driveway. Because of increased health issues, we decided to buy a toad and stay until New Years so I could see a doctor - oh, and the landlord gave permission. Well, evidently, one of the neighbors has a hair across their ass and have been harassing our friends via police and code enforcement for the last few weeks. This week, code enforcement showed again, this time to say we can not stay on their property. Of course, my first appointment is days after the deadline. I am really peeved. I have added thousands of dollars to the local economy, pick up my pup's poop, am quiet and neighborly. It took weeks to find a doctor to deal with my disabilities that takes Medicare and now I have to cancel everything. Where was code enforcement when my friends had to battle their last slumlord over black mold last year? Where are the cops when various individuals in town sell meth and heroin? To top it off, buying the toad (Boulder Canyon is too much for me to deal with in an RV until my medical stuff is figured out) depleted our funds, so kinda screwed. Arrrrggggggg.

I'm sorry for your troubles, ducky. Our friends at freecampsites.net may have a solution

5 miles west of Nederland. Turn west from 72 onto hwy 128. Follow 5 miles camping is numbered along the road. 8/18/13 Update: Coordinates now point to the second (and hopefully correct) …

Dispersed camping a few miles off the highway. Land to the west of the lake is part of the Roosevelt National Forest and is managed by the Boulder District. Note …

Thanks Cyndi. I boondocked there last summer. Unfortunately, it is almost always full. And there are always cops. Last year and this summer, people were cooking up meth. It can get pretty sketchy. However, I will probably bounce between there and dispersed camping at 37.5 on the other side of Ned until October.

Why can't you just tell code infarcement that you are living in the house?

Tell them to show you the local law that says you can't spend time in your MH in a driveway.

Mr. Loo, I am actually looking into that as a possibility. I do use this space as an art and quilting studio. Isn't their business when I do my work. Plus, now that my initial panic is over, I may actually challenge this. While I love this area, Boulder County's approach to homelessness or alternative living is repulsive. I was looking into case law and saw that the 9th circuit actually ruled against LA last week on their ordinance re living in a vehicle. It is slightly different, but I believe aspects of the ruling applies. I am going to bounce some questions off of friends who work for the ACLU and Center for Constitutional Rights.

I live in Pasco Co., Fl. County regulations state RVs cannot be in driveway (except to load up for trip - 4 hr.s max).
Cannot be visible from street. (pretty soft on that one)
No long term living in RV in residential area.County permit required for guests' RV w/a 7 day enforced limit.
I'm aware of a handful of RVs that are pushing it but in their defense they also have some of the best kept properties in the area.

I need to find a new county to live in.

Frickin, while i encourage you to challenge this and am myself encouraged by the decision of the 9th circuits recent decision be aware that the 9th circuit court is the most overturned court in the land - by far.
If it goes to California Supreme court that ruling could be overturned by them and if it progress's further it goes to the Federal Supreme Court.

DC, me too. If Scotland were not an ocean away.... I love my husband's friends, but I am the one that keeps this place clean, deals with trash, mows the lawn. Honestly, this wouldn't be a big deal, but someone tried to break my neck 6 years ago and the nerve issues got worse when I was volunteering in NM last winter. With Fibro and MS already riding my back, I really need to deal with this. And yeah, a little pissed.

Well Frickin, besides our mutual interest in a simpler lifestyle and frustration at the curveballs thrown at us we share something else in common.
I too suffer from Fibro and MS w/a case of sjogrens (pronounced showgrins) thrown in for good measure.
Good to hear you are still quite active though.
Please take good care of yourself and try to eat right and exercise.
(yeah right, like you're are'nt already exercising w/all you do already!)

There are a few boondocking sites between Nederland and Allenspark.

Magnolia Campground (1 mile south of Nederland)
Glacier Lake area (a few miles north of Nederland)
Beaver Res (a few miles south of Allens Park on hwy 72)

Problem is, it is going to get real cold up there real soon.

I'm down the hill from you in Longmont. It is a little friendlier to RVs parked at either of the two Walmarts or King Soopers in town. A few days in each should go pretty unnoticed. Also have a few truck stops along the Interstate at Hwy119 and Hwy52. You could rotate all of these for some time, but again the cold is creeping in and will be here in full force by Halloween.

Let me know if you come down the mtn.

Tell 'em you are a guest living in the house and working in the MH. Fighting the system is going to bring down the wrath of the system on your friends and their landlord. You will eventually leave and they will be left with the aftermath. You want to rethink the idea of making waves. It's not you who will be dealing with the results.

agree jeanontheroad. Code enforcement has to give you specific reasons. Address these specific reasons with out seeming to be belligerent.

For what it's worth, I lived on a friend's property in a TT for 3 years and Code Enforcement came by and saw an extension cord going to my TT. They said that I could "camp" there as long as I liked, but could not hook up to utilities or they would have to cite the owner of the property. Solar was the answer, and filling my water tank with water was not considered "hooked up" to water service.

Read the exact words of the code section to see what it applicable to your specific situation.

Thanks, didn't know about Glacier lake! Winter is coming. We were here until mid October last year. I did winter in a van in Mass the year before. We are having a "family" meeting tonight. Pretty much going with what jeanontheroad said. Considering how much this place looks like an art studio....
