Anyone looked into insurance for their van conversion? I assume a vehicle that has other equipment in it needs better insurance in case of fire/theft/accidents etc...
Does it move the vehicle into class b motorhome status? or does it make the entire vehicle technically illegal to insure?

Hi HWJ. When i bought my bus in Ny, it was registered and insured as a passenger van, about $350 every 6 months. Because i owned a business, and the seats were removed, i registered and insured it commercial, as part of my business, about $600 a year. When i moved to Alabama, i had done most of the conversion, and was told ot qualified as a rv, so it is registered and insured rv, about $400 a year for full coverage. Rates and laws vary wildly with factors such as age, vehicle, location and amount of coverage. And the company you choose makes a huge difference, so it pays to shop around.

Thirsty, my step van conversion is insured through Progressive. I was able to insure it for 9k and 3k contents for 340 a year, 300/100 liab incl.
My local insurance (that I have used for 20 yrs) would only insure it commercial for $700. annually 300/100 liability only.....I'm a senior and live in Vt.- other states are higher.....

Are rates higher on "RV"s if they are used all year long? Or are the rates still cheaper like that?
