Okay so I'm looking for a van to build out. I want the bed and all that. At first I will do short trips until I finish my phd and teach online hopefully. This is the question; I have an opportunity to buy a decent looking van 1993 chevy with 198500 miles on it. I know maybe down the road it may need engine and transmission work but the price is under 100000. Should I grab it or move on for something newer? This is a conversion van. Cargo or conversion? Is one better than the other for camping or traveling?

I hope you meant the price is under 10k not 100k. 200,000 miles is a lot. not much more info to go on. BTW go to the newcomers corner and give us an intro. highdesertranger

I hope both of those numbers had one too many zero's

If you are planning a build out, I recommend cargo. A 93 with 200k for 1k is pretty much a gamble but if thats all you can afford and in need, do what you gotta do tho. Best to ya.

I'm assuming his 100000 was missing a decimal point. Reread that with $1000.00

I took a gamble and bought a 1999 Ford conversion van with 185.000 miles already on it. It's now at 212,000 miles and all it's cost me so far was a $30 part (IAC Valve). Cars don't explode at 200,000 and if you find a good deal on a well maintained van, why not give it a shot? I don't regret it at all.

Isnt 200k too many miles for any car? Would not be surprised if it reached that considering its a 1993 model. And that price is 100k? You actually pay .50 cents for each mile it has run. I recommend you run away from that deal. ASAP.
