I've been tossing some ideas around to make my bus more user friendly and the areas within to be multifunctional. The twin sized bed takes up a lot of permanent space that is used as just a sleeping area. There is some storage underneath, and I'd like to figure out a way to use the bed surface area during the day as a desk and lampworking area. My thoughts went to a murphy bed (sideways) that could be folded back against the wall when not in use. Or, I'm also considering the idea of a Murphy Desk that would fold down over the bed and fold back against the wall when not in use.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Welcoming pros and cons, ideas and suggestions. Thanks!

Another idea I've heard about is having it connected to the ceiling, so during the day, you can squish it against the ceiling, and have it become the 'ceiling' as it were.

Whatever you decide, I'd love to hear about it, I need to do something about my bed in my van at some point.

With Love,
Tara

Weight can become a problem. I can't find the photos, I had a simple accordion fold using three 12" wide boards along one side, covered with foam and fabric. When folded back they made a bench seat. folded down into a bed. I know that is not exactly what you want, but maybe will trigger an idea. Another had a interior door hinged against the side that folded up out of the way. Different things at different times were under the bed.

Three times I've made a fold up bed in rigs. I left the amount of bed height as the distance out from the wall before hinging the platform. That way if I have 4" of bed height I'm 4" from the wall. When the bed was folded up I fab'd a way to attach it there (dif for dif rigs). With one I left enough of a platform sticking out from under the bed that it could be used as a seat, leaning back against the bottom of the bed, with a desk surface off the other side of the of the rig.
In our "She Beast" right now we have a futon bed/lounge (when it's folded in half lengthwise), but for most rigs they waste too much space behind them. Something like 8" when in seating position.

In my old motorhome I hinged the bed at the front edge (tailgate gas rams held in up) and had the lounge with built in storage underneath.

Below how this was finished.
Geoff

Wow! Now that would be great where space was at a real premium.
