Does anyone have tips on places to boondock, and/or work, along the coastal southeast?  I will be traveling in a car and with a dog, so I am immediately limited by those two things.
I want to do some beach boondocking in NC or SC, though FL would be nice, too.

I've been cataloging the Francis Marion forest campgrounds with Ruby. There are three free campgrounds, none of them spectacular with a 14 day limit. One is busy during the day with off road vehicles. All of the beach campgrounds require a fee and reservations. Holly Hill is a few miles from the coast or you could walk the Swamp fox trail from the halfway Creek campground. halfway creek is set up for tent camping but the parking area is big enough to park an RV or trailer. There was in fact a trailer set up there. Honey Hill has a vault toilet and picnic tables. You would have to drive to get to the beach. Ruby an I intend to spend a week in Honey Hill in the near future. Folly beach County park has great beach access but it's a $5 fee to get in and closes at the end of the day. James island county park has fee campgrounds with tons of amenities and a HUGE dog park. Forest campgrounds are primitive, they took out the water after some dummy ran over the spiget. I posted video from most of these places on my channel. Edisto Island state park is also reservations and fees. Buck hall is fee and reservation and it has a boat ramp. There are more but I haven't been to all of them yet.

It's not the coast but you should check out the Blue Ridge Parkway. TONS of places to camp and it is beautiful. Asheville, NC is one of my favorite places in the south and it is one end of the parkway. Pisgah National Forest is great!

Please be careful with a pet. If you've never been down here during summer, it's HOT and left unattended with windows wide open it can still be 110 in a vehicle.
As for finding work, check Craigslist in the bigger cities. There are always labor jobs available. If it's actual long term (a month or more), most call centers are always hiring and it might give you parking too. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes, it’s beautiful there.  I lived in Asheville for 20 years——I’m out in Seattle visiting friends, but I’m returning to NC in May.

No worries about the dog and heat. I’m a southerner, and I know about hot cars. Thank you for sharing that info, though, because there are still a lot of idiots out there who leave pets and children in hot cars.

Appalachicola National Forest, north of Appalachicola and around Sopchoppie has good boondocking. You would be 10 to 20 miles from St George Island, which has excellent beaches.

In FL there are beachside campgrounds but they're kinda pricey. Just google "BEACH CAMPING IN FLORIDA" and you'll find some rather nice ones. I once stayed at Boyd's down in Key West. Holy Moly, the price about 20 years ago was like 35 or 40 dollars. At that time you could stay in a hotel for that much. So we went to a hotel and 20 years ago, the cheapest was over 100 dollars. So we went back to Boyd's. That said, the tent spaces are on a coral beach. Ever try to sink a tent peg in coral? This is better for pop up tents or RV camping and I don't know what they charge these days but everything in Key West is priced high. I loved it there though. It was so pretty. Hemingway's house smelled like a cat litter box though. If you've been there, you know.
