I have added this story to a new news blog I started to show alternative news that almost no-one sees, especially if they get their news from the gov't controlled media

Breaking News: Good-bye “Affordable” Solar Panels

I wonder if we can get solar panels in Canada in order to avoid the tariff. Im no economics expert so I dunno-

Interesting stuff. I work at a roofing and solar company here in Southern California. All of our panels are from China, namely the "Ying-Li" brand. From what I understand, we stopped using BP panels a few years back because they had a tendency to CATCH FIRE! I wonder what's going to happen when the prices start trickling down to Mr. & Mrs. Homeowner. I mean, I understand the concept - raise tariffs so high that American companies are discouraged from outsourcing the manufacturing to other countries (i.e. China), creating/keeping more jobs on our own soil and all that good stuff. But 249% !? So much for going green, I guess.
the issue is way more complicated than an email from an unnamed source.

249% vs. 31% seems hard to hide. even under a tinfoil hat. the fact is this is on chinese products and mostly on ones that won't fit on top of your van.

when you take into consideration we're on track to become the world's leading battery producer, that our solar panels ARE getting cheaper, and that we're leading in energy delivery technology (though way behind in it's application) i really don't think this blog article amounts to much.

aint skeered.

Instead of attacking the messenger.. maybe do a google search of the topic , if you are really interested ?

With many folks that visit here (that are on limited funds) the lower cost for solar panels were a welcome development, helping those that live a mobile lifestyle, giving them flexibility on where they can stay, also saving on the cost of living.

Maybe you think the LA times is more to your liking Story here as a reliable source

or US commerce dept

or this us gov pdf file

Scientific American Why Tariffs on Chinese Photovoltaics Are Bad for the Planet

You are also right about being much more complicated, the dollar is rapidly loosing it reserve currency status, whitch is why the tariffs will backfire.

Do not be skeered, look up normalcy bias

Putz out
wow.
settle down there buddy.

when did i attack you?

and i googled.

if I read correctly and heard on the news, what has happened is the Chinese sold the solar panels for less than it cost them to produce them... this triggered the US Govt. to issue tariffs which only hurt the American people as the Chinese once again gets over on, once again, the idiots in office...

I for one will not buy their crap when we have fantastic panels made here in the US, and the price is dropping due to demand, I just purchased a 185W panel (monocrystaline) for $235...

So for me this issue is all politics, saber rattling, and again the Americans getting the short end of the stick...

Exactly ... I agree totally,
I actually think the the current politicians got embarrassed, when they tried to out subsidize solar panel mfg., against China
China, (holding over a trillion of our debt), out smarted them causing our companies (the ones that got fat gov't gifts) to go bankrupt in the process causing much embarrassment.

Since they got caught, now everyone gets to pay for their scheme

Putz
A few months back I bought a 140 watt panel for $180, an unbelievable price. I didn't need it or even want it (I still haven't wired it in, I don't need the power). BUT, I couldn't pass up the price, and I know I will want the power soon.

So a few years ago I put a 80 watt panel in my "wish-list" on Amazon.com. Yesterday I went into my cart and ,as always, it showed me things that had changed price. The 80 watt panel had jumped from $220 to $450. UN-F.....ING BELIEVABLE!!

I understand the idea of punishing dumping, but the results seem much worse than the problem it is trying to fix.

BOTTOM LINE, If you want solar, and you can find a good deal on panels, BUY IT NOW!! Bob
SoulRavenI I just purchased a 185W panel (monocrystaline) for $235...
[/quote said:

Can you tell us where you bought that panel please?

The good thing about all this is that in Australia, solar panel prices are going through the floor. $280 for a 200 watt solar panel! A 12 volt one as well. Though typically we are paying around $1.44 per watt from eBay dealers.

HEY HEY HEY SOULRAVEN! When are you going to tell us where you bought that 185 watt monocrystaline solar panel for only $235?

Thanks
Steve

akrvbob and I both bought panels in Victorville CA, we were on the look out for specials and finally found an ad in a little flyer advertising their deals... Now this was before the Chinese were caught flooding the market and American producers really gouged their prices to compete...

There is a place in Flagstaff AZ that sells great working panels with blemishes for cheap that you can follow also... http://www.windsun.com/

The key is shop AZ, NV, and CA for great deals... The down side is that they ship via ground due to size and weight which will add to the cost... If planning to go to the RTR this winter, this will be the time to buy your solar set-up and we all can help you get it installed...
