I have had my current Straight Talk phone for over 6 years. I am not unhappy with the service, though I am dissatisfied with the fact that every other provider seems to be reducing price except Straight Talk. Since I average only 500 MB of data/month increasing service to 5GB/mo does me no good. I just noticed Wal-Mart's new service  Total wireless   Has anybody tried them yet? The coverage map seems to match that for Straight Talk. The price suits my needs, and I need a new phone anyway as my battery barely holds a charge any more. Am I overlooking another/better service? Their plans include $35/mo for unlimited talk and text with 2.5 GB of data. 5x my current usage.

Straight Talk is the TRACPHONE company. But so is the TOTAL WIRELESS company. Its all the same company. They may not let you switch. You might need to port your number to a free porting service. Then port it back in after TRACPHONE cancels you on Straight Talk.

Best to check with STRAIGHT TALK on a text session. Or with TOTAL WIRELESS. Also ask them if they use CDMA (which is Verizon) phones as BRING YOUR OWN.

That's ok, I want a new number anyway. The ex can just email me if she wants to bitch and moan about stuff.
