Hey, all! I've posted a couple of times already here but I felt I should hold off on the intro until I purchased my van. Today is that day, my friends! I'm super excited to join all of you out there with my 2005 Chevy Astro. The plan is to finish out my lease on this apartment (6 more months), and spend that time building up my van. I'd like to get out of here sooner, though, because L.A. is not an ideal place to be right now.  I may ask my land-lady if I can end the lease early.

Btw, I am a veteran, served 4 years in the Air Force and 4 years in the Coast Guard, I have subsequently been homeless...this was before I was aware that the technical term was nomad, and I have recently taken an interest in hiking/bushcraft. I can't wait to meet you all and see where this adventure takes me!

Welcome to the CRVL Forums  :)

As things begin to get straightened out so that we can safely be out in public,  use Gym's, restaurants, grocery stores, campgrounds, and all...Van life will
resume cautiously.  In my own view,  a lot of living with a Van as your home will have you living some  part of your days outside of it.   I think of mine as a kitchenette, bedroom, and living room when I'm not driving it at which point it's my car.

While I'm still in my home,  I'm looking to the day I will go strictly with my Van and a converted utility trailer.  Then I'll follow the 70 degree weather.
Otherwise I'd like to build an Earthship home like a garage that I could pull my rig into and winter over in it.

Welcome to the CRVL forums Vet! Congratulations on finding your new home! Don't forget to come back and show us what you do to it. :)

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

I am in the same position, purchased a mini cargo van and also have 6 months left of my lease, six months to build. Hoping for your and my success.

Welcome. Coast Guard and Air Force, interesting combination of choices. My dad did the same. I forget which one was first but he was a radio operator, listening to Morse Code eight hours a day. They shipped him off to Alaska. He didn't like it there, so he did his four and got out. After a while as a civilian, he decided to re-enlist. But did not want to go to Alaska again. So he switched branches. Guess where they sent him? Yep, back to Alaska he went!
