Karima and a Harris Hawk.jpgHi All You Travelers,

I have wanted to introduce myself for a while and as a matter of fact already recorded a message but have yet to find an editing tutorial that I understand

I am Karima Gari and am happy to be Following My Path toward the One and thank Bob Wells for doing this wonderful work.  I am very happy about this new adventure.

I have lived with my dog, Scootie for the last ten years and we just celebrated his birthday.  I am right now in this Forum, but am actually going to be a CAR dweller with a tent for the immediate future.  One of the best pieces of advice I have received was to
not spend $$$ on everything I might think I need right away.  For that reason, I did not buy the Springbar which I wanted and instead bought a version of Fast Up which was reasonable.

Tomorrow is a big day as I have decided to remove my back seats so that I can get every inch out of the space in my Honda Fit Sport.

I have led a varied life prior to this and am well acquainted with the camping aspects of life.  My children and I spent time at a battered women's camp in the late 1970's for the usual reasons.  We were in a cabin with no running water, no toilets and no heat!!!  Sound familiar??
We lived there for almost two years and then I found a career in NYC and wound up becoming a Vice President for the leading aviation insurance company.  I loved my work and was there for ten years  until I decided to get married again.  Talk about mistakes!!!!!!

I also became affiliated with the Dances of Universal Peace and spent many, many happy times at the old Shaker Settlement in New Lebanon, NY while I was training for credentials to become a Dance Leader.  This was at the Abode of the Message which is where the Sufis had their teaching and home center.  It was the most wonderful experience of my life and I am still a Sufi.  Matter of fact,   They have recently relocated their Center to the Virginia area.  Today  I wrote to the woman who put together all of the guitar music for the dances and I received word from her today that there is a website I can order the new and updated edition/cds of that music.  I will be practicing and look forward to strumming some at the 2020 RTR/

I have three children and one grandson.  Unfortunately, I am moving into my car because the Governor of New Jersey in 2015 changed the alimony laws in NJ which in essence said men should not have to pay their ex-wives in perpetuity and so next year, my income will be cut in half and I cannot afford the expenses of sticks and bricks.  They have already increased the rent once.  I refuse to be the victim and so have given notice that I will leave at the end of my lease in November and meet some of you in Ehrenberg and then also the RTR.

I am having the last two seats removed from my car to give me every bit of space and I do have a tent for this first year out.  I am happily planning to spend Christmas with my oldest daughter in California as she will only be a short 600 miles from where I will be in Ehrenberg.  And then to my sister who is only 259 miles from there.

My interests are varied and within the CRVL, I would like to speak up about my life and encourage the women still at home to give it a try.  I am just as hesitant but nonetheless "full steam ahead".

You will see me refer to myself as olderThandirt, Scootie and Karima hopskotchin' their way across the USA and also under the banner Women on the Road.  About me, I am a published poet and writer;  I wrote a poem in 1966 which was the published in 1967; it was entitled July 18 1966 and ends with the words "I am alone and lonely; I live alone, I dream alone, I even love alone.  I am only one-half of me."  Many times I feel that not much has changed since then, but then there is Scootie and there is me and I am not a quitter.  So I am embracing life and look forward to getting to know many of you.

So blast off is in 7 months and I am taking Scootie out here in NM in the spring and hope to find a caravan in the summer to join up with.

This must be enough information.

Happy Trails!!!!!!!   karima gari

Nice to hear from you Pat.  Albuquerque here.  So we are travelling the same path.  Will you be on the road at all this coming spring and summer.  I am stuck in Abq until the end of November and will head down to Ehrenberg then and afterward to the RTR. :p  karima

Hi, Wow so nice to know other solo women are trying the full time van life. I am preparing, too. I am stuck with family responsibilities for one more year. It is nice to have this time to learn about life on the road. I have a town and country minivan. I hope to meet you on the road.
