Ford made a inline 6 cylinder engine with 300 ci for many years.&nbsp; It is legendary for its durability, reliability and good gas mileage. A truly outstanding engine. I once had one in a F150 with a 4 speed overdrive stick shift and it ALWAYS got 20 mpg on the freeway. They put them in their full-size vans for awhile, but they are hard to find. If you find one, give serious thought to grabbing it. BUT still get it checked it out by a mechanic first.&nbsp; Bob<br>

<div><br></div><div>Cool. That's really interesting. Was it in the 80's/early 90's that Ford did this?</div><div><br></div><div>Still, don't think I'd ever buy a Ford. I like working on my own vehicle, but if I was forced to buy a Ford, I'd have to take it to some other mechanic and ruin his day <img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle"> They are nasty to work on... and they often need work <img src="/images/boards/smilies/tongue.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle"></div><div><br></div><div>Nine out of ten mechanics agree. The ten percent that don't agree work at Ford dealerships. I assume they're masochists. At least they're well-paid; they deserve it. Someone's gotta do it, but I ain't that guy!&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>To be fair, I do appreciate the F-150's prior to 2003/2004. Other than that, most mechanics consider Ford a nasty four-letter word. The ugliest of F-words <img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle"></div>

&nbsp;Chev has a straight 6 and I had one (w. a 4 spd stick) in my '56 step van. Great fuel ecomomy and power. The Dodge slant 6 is another winner. They also made a slant 'Super 6' which was a real monster. ..Willy.<br>
