Hi, I have been lurking on this forum and reading it.  I'm dont speak or write very well so please pardon my English at times.  I'm was from Asia and now in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and i was particularly inspired by Luis Fernandes and One awesome inch - my situation lied somewhere in between these 2.  However, i do not have the skill to do the Van Conversion myself, but I think this is a treasure chest of information and i will work towards getting myself free to explore the world around me.

It has been like a light at the end of the tunnel and i will work towards achieving it.  Cheers

Welcome Alex!

I am in Edmonton also!
I'm doing my own build on a cube van, as well as living in it while I work on/in it.
If you need some help on a conversion down the road, I might be able to help,
as I am well equipped tool wise and am a very handy tinkerer.

Good luck on getting FREE!!!

Welcome to the CRVL forums alexchee! Your English is very good. Glad that you're here and hope that we can help you with your plans!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi and welcome.   Where are you from in Asia?  I would love to rent a moto there and travel around.

Best of luck with your conversion.  The two guys you mention are very inspirational.

Welcome !

And remember, no one here (or anywhere) was born with the skills they have - we all learn as we go.

Welcome Alex,   :)

CRVL  could be your giving source to help you prepare yourself to travel and see the world.  You may need
less than you may think to do this also.

Below are two links.  One is to convert a basic empty van to a livable travel RV.  (vanconversion)  It requires the
least of tools & materials to get started.  Some of the plan is using ready available materials in a different way.

The second link is for traveling once the Van is ready.  Many tools and sources of information to make travel
easier, more comfortable and intelligent so you will have a happy journey.

These sites were created for beginning to intermediate travelers from my experience.  This type of van would
be for warmer weather travel.  To live in it year around it would require further insulating and building but there
is plenty of information here for that as you know.

Happy Travels.

Dear All, Hope to make use of the great minds & wealth of experiences in this forum to help out on this buy. I found a 2006 Ford Extended E350 High Top with a 6.0 Diesel engine & a mileage of 108,000Km. There is already a Fantastic Fan & the walls are insulated for C$6900 or USD 4988. I have been at it for a few day, finally had the temperory insurance sorted out will be picking it up in a couple of day in another city.
I had the Carfax done & everything check out so far. I intend to let a inspection centre to have a good look at it before i hand over my $$ to it. Things that i will be checking out for are the unsual (Maintenance Records - if any, Tools that comes with the Van, Owner Guide & Spare Tire - anything else i missed out)
Please advise

do an internet search on Ford 6.0 diesels. they have a very bad reputation, we call them blow up motors. in my opinion the only good Ford diesel is the 7.3. highdesertranger

I was originally from Singapore, prior to coming to Canada, my job used to take me around South East Asia & travel lots to China, Taiwan & etc.  The cost for traveling in Asia is  very low, it's safer & cheaper just to take the Luxury Bus or Fly from 1 city & stay in a Motel.
I had a foreign friend travelling renting a van in Thailand & sleeping in it - he had a great time until he had an accident with a local Thai - the locals & local police was taking advantage of him.  I happened to be in the city, i felt like I was the calvary coming to his rescue but that another story for another day.

It even comes with food & drinks (Non-alcoholic) for a Grand sum of C$26 for a 5 hour ride with free Wifi.

I was never comfortable in the country (620 sq km - 40 mins from 1 end to the other with 6 million people crowding around) that i was born in.  I took every opportunity to work aboard. There is always a strangle for resources, high competition in any job or biz opportunity & cost of living is extremely high (mortage & car ownership). The pressure to adhere to the social norm and to follow the mantra of Study, work find a job and pay a mortgage and dedicated the rest of your life to do it everyday.

Sorry getting long breath.LOL

Thanks for the info, i have check about the problems

How check about the solution and what Ford has done as well.

This is why i will send it for inspection to verify if the unit has all the required updates and changes. Before pulling the trigger on this one.

well to update a 6.0 to make it reliable it cost about $10,000. there is a major design flaw that really there is no fix for only a Band-Aid type fix. this is the head bolts, there are only 4 per cylinder should be 5 minimum. this flaw makes blowing head gaskets extremely likely doing major engine damage. so good luck, but do your homework. highdesertranger
