Over the years I don't think I have gotten more than 2 knocks on my door from people who are required to go out into the world and testify their faith to strangers. Of course I have never lived in a Mormon country state such as Utah and Idaho.

My husband worked for many years with a father and son who were JW. The son worked directly for my husband and considered him a second father. My husband once discovered the son viewing inappropriate material on his computer. They are normal people in most respects. Of course they tried to convince my husband that only the selected 144,000 were going to be saved on judgement day and they wanted him to be saved. We attended the son's wedding years ago and it is very serious business, counseling witnessed by the guests and congregation is part of the ceremony. There is no divorce in that community; I believe wedding anniversaries are the only special occasion they celebrate. No birthdays, no Christmas and certainly no Halloween! But yes it's bothersome when they approach your home and try to impose their beliefs on you. The response we would give depends on the degree of pushiness of the visitors.

Hi TxLady,

just an FYI....The JW's are wrong, the 144,000 are Jews who have come to faith in Jesus Christ.

The JW's, Catholics, Protestants, Presbytarians, and so on, and sadly some Christians, are the Pharisee's of this age, they are the very establishment religions Christ wanted to end.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a Christian....not a "religious" person, and yes there's a difference.

I will NEVER walk up to you and try to force you to listen to me talk about my faith, or even bring the subject up, nor try to convince you that you are a sinner, for one reason only.....we are ALL sinners, we ALL fall short of the Glory of God. So for me to act like I am somehow better than someone, not a sinner, would be the height of arrogance. (Christ NEVER forced others to listen to him)

I DO however wear clothing that clearly shows my faith in Jesus, and if someone were to ask me about it, I will be more than happy to give an explanation for my faith and "DISCUSS" it with them.

What "establishment religion" people get wrong, is not that they are perfect, it's the opposite, it's that they are very imperfect but are saved by by one thing only, faith that Jesus is who he says he was and that he did what the bible says he did.

I'm a sinner...I drink alcohol (sometimes to extremes :-/ )...I get mad ( sometimes to extremes :-/ )....I yell at people sometimes ( i apologize and move on and try to do better)...among other things.
I am NOT a perfect person, but I AM a saved soul, because I have faith in Jesus Christ and that he did everything he said he did.

I know that people think those who have a belief in God are stupid or nuts...I am neither.

I'm not trying to convince You of anything with this post (or anyone else here)...But I think it's very important for people to have the facts and know what they are talking about, and you're post about your husbands friend saying that about the 144,000 was wrong, and other peoples comments here...and i just used your post to clarify some things (and a couple others)

My hope is that if we were to ever meet, you and the others who have commented on this subject would not ridicule me for my beliefs because I would not ridicule you for yours. Rest Assured that I would never Start up a discussion on this topic....but if it were opened by someone else, then Christ requires me to give an account for my faith, and I will.

TY for taking the time to read my comment

I'm thinking a sign that says "Life Consultant. $100 Cash Retainer Due Upon Knocking!"

Just bend their ear a while about the technical aspects of solar panels complete with as many hands on demos as you care to throw in. When you run out of material, read Bob's book to them. Report back here if you get any converts, so we get a little warning.

Guess I am not the only one here who values their privacy.  -crofter.

Not to worry, you won't be bothered with anyone doing door knocking for religion for the next long while. Those folks will stay home and take advantage of those food supplies they stockpiled for the scenario when the rest of civilization falls apart and food and other supplies including toilet paper are not available from any source. Their churches won't even be holding services much less sending out people to testify and recruit new members.

There are some advantages to this current crisis and one of them is strangers will be leaving you alone :)

People's intentions mean a lot to me. I can deal with Witnesses and Mormons trying to sell their ways because they are doing what they feel is right.I can make conversation and politely dismiss them if needed.
People bothering or attempting a scam on me while they know it's they wrong way to act is where I run out of patience

I tried to be nice and tell them no, but they were very persistent. So finally I said, "I'm sorry but my father would not like it that I am talking to you." The JW said, "Well, you look like you are old enough to make your own decisions." I replied, "Do you consider God as your father?" He replied, "Yes." I said, "Well my father is Satan and he does not like you." They left and never came back.

just put a little sign on the door. For your safety please put on a mask and gloves.
