Every time I drive by your van at the library, I want to stop by and just say hello.  One of these days, I will!

That would be OK as long as you time it right. After 2 pm the van better be on fire as I am sleeping. I get a tad cranky when I get people disturbing my sleep.

Oh and if you do it this week, we can go out to eat. I'm off till Jan 2nd....No more vac pay, sick pay nor holidays off with pay....I can't wait till the hip is fixed so I can quit this crap company....

So many offended people here; I thought vandwellers to be more open-minded than most other types. I don't mind the evangelizers, often have long and interesting conversations with them. In a society where many people are oblivious to the world around them or scared of strangers, it is great to meet with those who are willing to have a meaningful conversation. I don't accept their literature, though.

I am open minded, but when I am in my van, intent with my computer, I sure am not very interested in someone interrupting me. Then trying to give me something I am not interested in and also NOT identifying themselves.

Now had I been sitting out and the sun shining and some ice cold lemonade beside me, then I'm going to be more receptive since I'm not bundled up with my heater going.

What does bother me of the JW's is that I was attending the "Set Free Ministries" church in Cabool, MO. We had probably 8-9 churches there. One couple in the church would not only greet the JW's when they came by, they'd invite them in and discuss the bible.

After 3 months, they came and told the couple "We can no longer come here. We were told if we cannot convert you, we are to reject you from now on" Now that kind of control of people in the church, is beyond me comprehension.  Or, maybe I could start talking with them and after 3 months, they'd leave me alone?

due note,i have been a good boy by not replying to this thread so to make up for past ingressions or future a holeness

I'm Catholic but that's MY business and I don't go preaching to people about it. I also don't like people coming to my door whether it's my van or when I lived in a S & B. I don't think that's being rude in saying that, either. People have a right to their privacy.

Now I dig, Brother Art!

In addition to really not understanding, I just like poking Gary from time to time to keep his blood flowing. ;-)

Gary can be fun to poke
He can poke pretty well himself, now and then
Wait wut?
ummmm, that don't sound right

This is something I've wanted to try after I was accosted by a well-meaning person on the Portland, OR waterfront wanting me to listen to his speech about saving the orangutan habitat and to get me to sign a petition:

"I see you are passionate and care deeply about this topic. I, too, am passionate about a great many things. My time is as valuable as yours. I would like to expound to you on my favorite topic  (you could express your irritation with people showing up at your door proselytizing :) ). For as many minutes as you respectfully listen to me talk about my topic, I will respectfully listen to you talk about yours. Look! I have a stopwatch app on my smart phone! Ready?"

If they just want to talk at you and don't want to reciprocate, then they will hastily leave...

ON another forum, we were warned to not PWD (Post while drunk) as some of our members (Gambling group and hard drinkers...What a combo) would speak their minds and the group censor would be going nuts eliminating their swear words.

I open the door, look them head to toe and back again. Then I tell them I'm gay and they are cute.......

Tried something similar unsuccessfully; was told, "thank you, God's love makes me beautiful" ....

Now I've modified it in multiple directions by saying, "God does answer prayers!  I was just asking for new material for my mental spank bank and here you are dressed like one of the scenarios we play in my swinger's club"

I've got a couple, "I'll pray for you" 's, but pretty much left alone.

A couple other forums I am on have "Dirty Word Filters" You can swear if you want, but all that comes across are asterisks. :)

(Sigh) I REALLY will make that darn sign...Yes, AGAIN AND BY THE SAME GUY!!

(Obviously a JW, they are not easily dissuaded I'll say that much....)

It goes without saying, you apparently have the rights to express yourselves regarding being approached by those who feel the need and are commanded by their church to go out and try to convert. Please keep in mind there are Jehovas Witnesses and Seventh day Adventist who are participating members of Cheap RV living. You may not have considered this or considered you may be alienating these people. If you didn't realize this maybe it's because not all are out banging on your van doors. They may even be someone you have shared meals with here at the rtr functions or sat and laughed with you at campfires.

Just asking, please don't be hurtful with your words here. We all have different needs. Some need religion, some don't. There's room for both at my campfire.

Diane

Not a problem with them as long as they respect my right to privacy. When they tread on that right, I treat them as I would ANYONE, of any religion or atheist. It is the ACT I object to, not their life choice.
