I have been kicking the idea of going nomad for a long time. I had wondered how could I earn a living. I was reading the mechanical issues forum. Then I thought I could do mobile repair. I could use some ideas on how to make this work. I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, a new Indian motorcycle and a nine year old boy. Aside from tools and equipment want do you all think I could use to transport. A car is out of the question because I don’t want my son living in a car. I was thinking a motorized toy hauler for my son to be comfortable and to load my bike and tow my Jeep. I looked into them but they are expensive.

How does your son feel about living this way? Is he excited for the trip or is he grounded for now with friends and school?

A toyhauler or van with cargo trailer

yep the motor homes that are toy haulers are rare and expensive if you do find them. I would go with a bigger truck and a toy hauler trailer or a converted cargo trailer. IMO if you are going to be out west an Off Highway Vehicle is more useful than a street bike. one for you and one for your kid or a side by side. highdesertranger

if you are full timing make sure everyone has their own bed :) and some space. Life seems fun on the road all cramped and comfy til ya live it. everyone, even a kid, requires some room to breath easily and not be crammed in with another all the time :) :) just a 'keep that in mind' before buying kinda suggestion

tools and equipment, motorcycle, rv section, 2 people thats alot of weight. 1 1/2  or 2 ton with a big motor would be my choice. now u need flooring to hold the weight of tools.

I would vote for a van and a trailer rather than a truck and also a trailer. It is good to have two living areas. That way there is some space for peace and quiet and some space for noise which can both happen at the same time. Sometimes you need a nap or a little peace and quiet or just a break from the game of "thousand and one questions". Rainy days can be trying and kids have a need to be kids instead of always having to play quietly. A game of matchbox cars with motor noises, big crashes and chases can get very noisy and it can take up a lot of space too and having privacy for such a game can make it a lot more fun and rowdy which makes for one very happy boy who has released a lot of creative energy. You should plan on having as much clear floor space as possible. Remember that kids like to be able to close curtains around their bed for a fort or cave effect, another creative play outlet for rainy days. Try to involve him in the design decision of "his space". Go out together and kick some tires and look at spaces.

Thank you. I was think of buying a piece of land in New Mexico. My situation is very complicated. The ex had Cancer she does pay child support.

While it may seem like a great idea, most of the nomads want free repairs.
When in Quartzsite, there was a bit of $$$ to be had by the "Prevost" Canadians who could not figure out how to use the gensets...or their own fridges, but mostly, there are a bunch of people doing this already and slicing each others throats on price.

All the gravy jobs get done by a neighbor who prides him/herself on being a hero. (and more power to him/her it is good to see folks helping each other)

Just want you to know that earning a living this way is not easy.
The last time we took off, the tool trailer stayed home.

I burned more fuel to move it than it made me.
If you can pick up an average of $50 an hour out on the road, you are doing very well.
Most people are foolish and would rather spend 100+ an hour at a shop than have you fix their rig for half that...if you work out of a truck or trailer. I was shocked by the attitudes.
Selling T shirts will make you more and bloody your knuckles less.
