So I have been thinking/puttering about this for a while, the idea of ditching the main lead acid battery that we use for starting our vehicles and replacing it with a combo of a super cap array hooked to a small solar panel.
Why do batteries suck for vehicles main power?
Batteries age and die, they can do it all at once or over time, but once you drain it down too low you have done permanent damage and most likely the end is coming.
They are affected by cold weather and as they age will possibly leave you stranded
They are heavy and toxic (though most of the time they are recycled, so the toxic thing isn't so bad)
They struggle to release energy quickly even though they store a lot.
They are expensive and need replacement because people don't maintain them (usually) in the case of regular.
In the case of AGM there is no real way to maintain (built in obsolescence)
Why not to use super caps?
They don't store much power
They need more tech to maintain
They are expensive and no one is making this system yet
The voltage supplied is nonlinear
