Thanks. I can do a lot of my own work but this one I need help and tools. If it were just an alternator or similar I have the tools for it. This is frustrating but it is what it is. Believe it or not, this is the first time any vehicle of mine broke down out of state that I couldn't fix myself. Worse case scenario is being stuck at this repair shop for a while. But...at least I'm allowed to be here and that's huge.

Just read your post. If you haven't solved your problem yet, I can help out. I'm an auto tech, with 47 years experience and all the tools necessary to do the repairs. I'm currently at Dome Rock BLM. Let me know if help is still needed.

Okay, one dude from the forum came over to see me and I've talked to another on the phone. I'll let them remain anonymous unless they want to chime in. There are a couple good possibilities but they all depend on me getting the van out of this repair shop parking lot to do the work. I called a church right down the street to see if I can park in their parking lot but got voicemail. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the support guys. I don't feel as stuck as I did yesterday. 

So, with the new possibilities due to this forum, if I can find a place close by to park I'll be mostly out of the woods

There is a Carquest Auto Parts store in town. If you buy the parts there they might let you do it in the parking lot or be able to suggest someplace you could work.

Many years ago I set out on a major trip with a few friends, 6 hours into our trip we blew a wheel bearing. We were a hundred miles from closest town with a parts store. Hitched in got the parts back the next day changed the bearings and we were away, so you are lucky to be in town is what I am saying and in a few more posts on here this will be sorted. Don’t worry, you got food, a shelter to stay in, your getting a bit more intimate with your rig, and people are helping you out. All good.

I'll update in more detail later on, but I'm out of the weeds (with a whole lot of help) so to speak. I'm out on BLM land with the van and I was able to drive it here. There's more to do but now I don't have to worry about where I'm sleeping and there's 14 days more in this spot to get it all sorted

Hey MotorVation, it's good to know you're comfortably camped now. Would you happen to be parked near Doug? If so, look northwest and wave at the scamp trailer. Also if so, do you like sourdough bread?

Yup, and Doug showed up yesterday and gave me much moral support and offered to do more. The other people just showed up in this morning, Keith after I called him. I'm too burnt out to go into much detail but they saved my ass. It was awkward explaining the situation to the folks at Everett's after they let me sleep there for two nights but they understood my dilemma and were very cool about it. Ended up calling the Lutheran church down the street and asked if I could bring the van over there to work on it in their parking lot and they (she) gave me the green light. Dave, who's not Doug,(long story) showed up with the parts without even asking me! 

It took me asking for help to meet these great people. First people I've met in person from the forum. I've been a member since 2007 and this is my second trip out west with the van.

HUGE thanks to Keith. This man is an EXCELLENT mechanic, not to mention, a really thoughtful and generous man. We are really lucky to have these kind of folks in our tribe, truly an invaluable resource.

We are real happy to have helped out Bob. He is a really great guy and we just love being around him, he just makes you smile!! We really enjoy his awesome vibe.

We have some more repair to do to get the van back to 100% but looking real good with the help here.

I've been watching this thread, hanging on the next post. So glad you've found help. I see myself being able to help with these types of repairs and more when I'm finally out full time.  I'm a Toolmaker by trade, and a decent Mechanic and problem solver.
