Had a ranger nice small truck low maintenance very reliable, but mounting a over 1000 lb house in the back would worry me. With my 3/4 a 1300 lb six-pac is borderline and since I do not off road doable. I don't see how some people pull off these 2500 lb plus Lance slide ins they always look like the ass is dragging and have spoken to some about this and mixed results but most do not go OFF ROAD. Some complain about driving in high winds like the Wyoming plains WOW talk about wind. Sorry I went a bit south of topic, IMHO no slide in is stealth but just like a van only takes up one parking space in cities vans are the stealthiest. But the old good looking guy with Gray hair dressed nicely would not alarm me coming out of the camper I would just think hey that could be me in a few years looks like fun.

Only way I could see doing a truck camper in a ranger would be either a home built like Bob had on his pickup, or a Capri Camper (the Cowboy weighs 600-700 lb in base trim)

I'm surprised that your 3/4T is borderline.  I run with a FWC Grandby weighed at 1250 lb wet and my stock Ram 2500 4X4 hardly notices it; get a little bit of rocking in high winds, but nothing scarry.  I do go off road, but nothing seriously steep, rutted, or off camber.

I know what you mean about the huge campers some people put on trucks.  I cringe just having to pass them.  They look unstable just going down the highway in still air.

Yes and loaded to the gills, Having access to a truck scale keep a sharp eye on my weight.

No truck camper is stealthy unless it's a stock cap/canopy (e.g. Leer, A.R.E, etc)... anything else obviously has someone sleeping in it... they're called 'campers' !
