I'm always paranoid about getting caught by a cop. Someone stole my license plates and my cars inspection recently expired. I don't know what to do. I'm not a resident of the state I reside in, so I can't get plates from the local DMV. I'm hundreds of miles from the state I am registered in and I can't drive there right now for inspection or new plates. I don't have an address that the plates can be mailed too either. My priority is to get new plates. I think since I'm from out of state, I won't get pulled over for my inspection sticker so long as I have license plates. I can afford to get new plates but I don't know how to go about getting them

Anyone know a good way to get stuff delivered, or know any tricks to get away with having a less than sufficient vehicle status?
fwiw...
what does that stand for??

Something for you to consider...there's alot of small farms like that owned by a female farmer friend of mine, that need alittle help...where in her case as an example, she'll give you a roof over your head, some food etc in exchange for like 15 -20 hours a month helping with small specialty crops...and I mean small gardens and feeding/watering donkeys/chickens/horse etc. She is involved in the local church food pantry and between food from them has enough food. Don't know how dire your situation is or will become. This particular farm is between Richmond and Raleigh...no oceans to fish in but major lake nearby. You may have no interest in an inland, farm-oriented locale. Sortof a commune. There are websites where you can find these opportunities for a place to live like IC.ORG and HELPX.NET...the Intentional Communities website is amazing with all kinds of communities and communes, many of which might be a choice. The problem here is I don't know your situation or what you are looking for or where you want to be.

This is an amazing forum with terrific, helpful people and maybe if you wrote a bit more our thinking caps would come on and come up with some ideas?? Dust

fwiw stands for "for what its worth"

I am not in as terrible a spot as most people who frequent this forum probably are. I recently graduated from college with a B.S. degree within the biological sciences, and I am just unable to find work. My lease ended in May and I knew that I would survive longer off my savings if I lived in my car rather than renting a new place. I didn't expect to be living in my car this long, but it is harder to find work than I thought. I never really left my college area though, so I know a decent amount of people here. Generally if the weather is terrible I can find a floor to sleep on, so I like this area. I am still recognized as a student, as I am only 22. I take advantage of my young appearance and spend lots of time on college campuses, leeching off of their services (laundry, bathrooms, food, internet, etc.).

I have applied for hundreds of jobs in the past few months and I'm just not hearing back from anyone. I'm hoping to get a job before it starts getting too cold out. Until then I am comfortable living off my savings for another few months.

That's pretty neat, but it wouldn't have helped me. Whoever took my plates used a crowbar or something to rip them off. The screws are actually broken and still in there, but with the heads ripped off.
I actually pulled over a cop shortly after it happened and filed a report with him. He told me I was the 6th person in the area that weekend who had their plates stolen. The cop pretty much told me to work it out with my DMV. They really didn't do anything about it. I guess there isn't really much they can do.
