@Sternwake
I got a old soldering iron that I use to melt plastics and sometimes weld plastics , I was thinking it may be possible to melt away the blue plastic potentiometer to get to its leads

Room is so tight, I'd not risk it, unless you are ready to also pull the whole thing apart if it goes wrong.

Pulling the circuit board from case is not that hard. just get some thermal grease to place between the thermal pads that are up against the transistors. Unscrew the pieces holding the transistors to the casing and bend the transistors inward 3 or 4 MM and it will easily come out of casing with the screws removed.

I think one can simply add wires to the bottom of the circuit board where the legs of the potentiometer stick out, and have another potentiometer in parallel leaving the original in place. Not sure on this. Wait it out for now until I am.

SW, These last two posts make no sense to the rest of this thread. Did something get deleted?

Sorry , that was me that took it off topic , I just wanted to throw a quick idea at Stern  .
Anyways I think the conclusion was there is no such special tool that would allow to keep tool attached to one of the battery cells

After 2 1/2 years experience:

I have two GC2 in series.  I test SG and check fluid levels ~ once a month.  The rest of the time I monitor by a Trimetric 2030.  Batteries SG = ~1.280 consistently and I reset the Trimetric at each testing.  With my usage I am almost always back to 100% by evening.  Batteries still going strong.

Look up 'battery watering systems' for some ideas on how to kluge a system to measure cell SG on demand.  But IMHO an amp counter (like the Trimetric) gives one more useful information on a daily basis:  it was noticing it was taking longer to get back to 100% that I discovered my refrigerator door gasket was leaking.

Could I use a Trimetric 2030 if I don't have Solar?
Thanks
