250 watts is a nice big solar panel. How did you mount the hinges? silicone and bolts through to the inside?

I would like to do the same but haven't figured out an easy way to release the panel from one side to tilt it up once parked.
I'd like to be able to tilt it either side.

I removed some of my finished interior ceiling panels. This is a conversion van, so they ran 3/8 plywood between the side to side braces from front to back. I drilled the roof down thru the plywood and added bolts thru the hinges on four corners. On the center hinges I added wood lags that went thru the roof down thru the plywood. Using lots of silicone under each hinge and more as I added a bolt or lag.

I can now tilt my panel in either direction. I bolted the hinges to the side of the panel and then used wing nuts and lock washers. So far with lots of driving, none have come loose. I carry extra and check often just in case.

The panel is 245 watts, 8.1 amps and 35 volts. So far, by about ten in the morning in partial shade my batteries are full. But I don't have much running and am not in it at night to run lights and charge computer. One cold morning it was charging at 8.7 amps.

I have about 9 12v outlets, two usb outlets, a couple non led lights,12v fridge, water pump and some small computer fans. Will be adding a 12v tv/dvd next week. Also running a 750 watt modified sine wave inverter, which I ran 4 gauge wire to. It will be running a printer/copier and a magic bullet once in awhile.

I ran 6 guage wire from the roof, 4 gauge to the batteries, 8 guage to two blue sky fuse busses and have a 2 0 running from a continuous duty solonoid up front, off the altenator.

Took me two days to install, that includes completely rewiring everything in the back of the van and adding a fan behind the fridge and one behind the controller.

I think I should have enough power now for all my needs.

Greybeard23, Thanks for that info. Very helpful in my future decision making.
-Bruce
