I had an extra box, thanks to the recent purchase of my slow-cooker, and I have been curious about a solar oven so I went for it. The only real investment was a couple feet of aluminum foil and a bit of tape. After some cutting and forming of the cardboard I simply put a layer of foil on the four inner walls, the floor, and the lids.
It is an extremely primitive solar oven, but the first trial resulted in a slice of pizza being re-heated to over 330f degrees… on a 60 degree sunny day. I could do a lot of baking at 300f degrees! Slow cooked stews, baked potatoes, veggies, etc. Some minor tweaks to the design would net 400f or more, which is more than enough to cook any meal in short order.
This design was only to trial the whole idea. I have another design, made from a reflective windshield shade which will be much more suitable to van-living.
