Hi folks,
I bought a rig with a solar system with a  xantrex prowatt 2000 inverter this fall. I used shore power for the winter, using the solar for lights and other low draw things. The system works quite well except for the 110 outlets on the back of the inverter. I tried resetting GCFI switch. No go. I also tried a system re-set by pulling the positive off the house batteries for 5-7 mins. Did not fix problem. Do I need a new inverter? If not, is there something else I can do to fix this? I am very new to solar and loving it! Here is a pic of the exact model inverter I have: (the one with the white (not red) GCFI switch). https://www.google.com/search?q=xan...AUIDCgD&biw=1138&bih=509#imgrc=0a2xQavzsw95EM:

Don't bother calling Xantrex to ask about getting it fixed once out of warranty. Their support really svcks on products costing less than thousands.

Magnum, ProMariner, Outback, Victron, MasterVolt, Samlex, Tripplite, Vanner are all much better brands.

The other approach is get a bunch of cheap little ones per consumer device, turn on and off as needed.

So I take it it's toast?

As for the alternate approach, I'm assuming it is more cost effective?
Pros and cons of alternate approach other than the obvious?

Thanks for replying.

This reply is a mistake. Re-learning the site. It's been a while.

Maybe someone who knows more about your inverter will answer in coming days.

About the more general question, not sure what you know or don't, frame your question more specifically please.

I know you said you tried the GFI switch. but did you turn the inverter on? what happens when you turn it on? does the pilot light come on? have you checked for 12v at the inverter? highdesertranger

Well I'll be darned. Turning it on worked. Who-du-thunk?  My thinking was since some of the system was working that the inverter must be as well. Shows how much I need to learn about solar and electricity in general. Thanks so much for the help.

Nitpicky note.

An inverter has nothing to do with solar per se.

Plenty of 12V systems use one without the other.

Back when I helped Uncle Nick with in-home TV repairs, How often it was not plugged in.

Sticking a plug in a socket for a minimum house call fee isn't all bad (for you and your uncle anyhow) ;). Hopefully lesson learned for consumer.
