We can't head up until the day before due to work schedule. We are planning on somewhere in Oregon as it is closest to us. Not sure where yet - currently researching a place. Planning on staying in the vehicle and packing our own food/etc (as usual). Hoping to find a place with people, just not a huge amount. Too many people freak me out

I am sure it will be quite crowded.  I plan on being there end of the week prior to scope things out.  There is a lot of ground just to the West that should be much less crowded.

For Oregon eclipse viewing, I would recommend the desert in eastern Oregon, far from any population center. Clear weather and fewer crowds. I suspect there is overlap between BLM land and the eclipse, but have not matched the maps up.

I was thinking there must be SOMEPLACE 20 miles outside of BFE that would be a good place.  I haven't seen one since I was teenager (a solar eclipse, that is).  Now that my mental capacity is about at that level again, it's time to see one again!

I just got a letter from a viewer in Oregon, and she wanted me to alert people that the local businesses in Oregon are gauging an incredible amount for EVERYTHING that pertains to visitors in preparation for the eclipse.

I'm confident that is true EVERYWHERE!!! Unless you have certain accommodations and are totally ready to deal with horrible crowds and nightmarish conditions.

I have ocular albinism, no pigment in the back of my eye, so zero protection from the suns rays.  The special glasses offer some protection but "not enough to risk blindness".

If you wanted to view the eclipse and are in a place to do so have you heard of or ever thought about using a pinhole box to watch it? I remember as a kid in Jr. High I think it was our sience teacher had us all make a pinhole box out of a shoebox. That's the route I'll go.  Did the pinhole thing when I was a kid and while it was interesting, I wanted to SEE it.

I'm ambivalent since this is a once-in-a-lifetime event for me.
I already purchased pairs of glasses from reputable vendors (albeit, I maintain a level of distrust).
If my invitee opts out, I plan to go it alone.

Although I'll be in my accommodations, I am very concerned about the effects of the event.
Like the craziness during full moons, there's a high probability of magnified craziness during this eclipse.
I'll just heed my intuition as I approach its path as I want to experience that 2+ minutes of night during the day!
