Hi! I'm thinking of attaching the plywood walls in my step van to the metal "studs" that are already in place. What is the best way to do this? Should I use toggle bolts? Drywall anchors?   I know I need something that won't require me to get behind the metal to secure the bolts or screws in place.

Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

  • You use sheet metal screws for the fasteners. Drill a starter hole that is no larger in diameter rhan the solid area of the screw shaft minus tne width of the spiral threads. The threads do the holding so the hole must be smaller so the can grip into the metal.

Of course you can also ask this kind of question right at a neighborhood hardware store such as Ace, True value, Do It Best, etc. They will help you pick out.good fasteners for specific materials and situations.

Blind nut inserts is one answer.

Self-drilling screws is another way to do it.

As always, there is no 'best way'....there are always pros and cons to each method.
