First night in my new trailer I sneezed and coughed all night. Long story short, the mattress was the culprit, it was stuffed with some kind of fibrous material that must have been toxic because I've never had a reaction like that before to anything. So, I disposed of it.

I bought two full size 2.5" memory foam mattresses at Walmart and two foam toppers, regular foam. I place them neatly in a full size down mattress cover and now I have a home made bed for under $200.00 that sleeps very comfortably.

I also got rid of that 'thing' that they put under beds for extra storage. That lid made out of pressed fiber board. Another nightmare. In its place I got two coolers, the exact same height and width, combined, of the storage space under the bed - with durable lids that support the end of my bed - which is just support foam. They are both enclosed in the storage compartment and have taken the place of the fiber board lid that's now gone. I think Godzilla could sit on them and they wouldn't cave! lol

I keep my water in the coolers and some other things. Now I don't have to bust my back every time I need to get in there under the homemade mattress for my water.

That foam can be cut to any size so why bother buying a custom made mattress really when we can do it ourselves?

This sounds excellent. I am in need of a cheap way to upgrade my foam mat that I'm using. You just gave me an idea, and with the bonus of someplace to store mu rifle. I'll do it this weekend and post pics. Do you have pics?

Yes, how do I send them? I would be happy to share them, I might have to charge my camera batteries first. I know what you mean, I store my Glock under there! lol I have a Glock 17, very comfortable actually.

I also have bear pepper spray and police issue pepper spray cause you never know! lol (Actually those were gifts from my cousin when she found out there are mountain lions in the desert...)

I'm charging my batteries and will take photos of the storage compartment under the foot of the bed that I customized and will post them later this evening.
nice looking truck and trailer, corinne. Darrell
it would be so nice to have a big RV or trailer to play with, but alas my rig is a van... What I did was buy a a futon frame, cut it in half and inserted wood inch and a half round wood pegs in the frame... Now I can expand and welded the futon frame in place over the wheel wells to make a double bed... For the mattress i went to Wal-Mart and bought a 8 inch mattress that fit and laid it down... very comfy, but a bit of work, that cradles me to sleep ever night... Storage underneath and very sturdy...Not a trailer or RV bed, but big and comfy for me...

here is the link to the mattress: http://www.walmart.com/ip/8-Indepen...-Futon-Mattress-Full-Chocolate-Brown/11600836

Great idea for the mattress and space use under them. Love your get up.

Rae

Thank you everyone, I appreciate it.

Not all RV or Trailer beds are all that great I discovered. That's okay, at least we all know we can make our own.

SoulRaven, I really like that mattress you have chosen. Not a darn thing wrong with a Van conversion, I think it's awesome. The simpler the better.

I had to go with the foam because it wasn't 74 or so inches long, that would be too long for my 19 foot trailer, otherwise I would have actually purchased an air bed. In fact, the 'queen' bed it came with was way too big for the trailer to begin with and I didn't like squeezing around the corners to get to the little closet space on either side. That is why, for me, I went with the foam so I could have more room in here and cut it to suit my own height.

Thanks yesican and everyone else for complimenting my humble rig. I call it Home. Hope to see everyone on the road somewhere. I did bring my telescope with me and would be happy to share it. Here is the one piece that attaches to the scope, the SkyScout. It's like a little Planetarium with a GPS in it that will tell you what you are looking at. "Technology." It can also tell you what your longitude and latitude is and it will show you the degrees of the mountain ranges that are around you on your computer! Pretty amazing I found. Anyway, these are my toys.

Very nice setup, looks very cozy inside.
Cool scope too!

Thank you robear. Your rig is very stealth and nice!

I'm currently missing a piece on the scope and have to wait 8 weeks for it! Otherwise I'll probably be using it nightly. Everyone is welcome to peek through the lens if our paths ever cross.

Attached are words of encouragement, I have found, and a photo of Mt. Charleston Nevada. When I lived in Las Vegas I drove up there all the time and stayed all day. It's only a 45 minute drive from Vegas off the 95. Lots of places to park there, by the way, off the beaten path.
