I knew it was to good to be true that my 1979 class c was going.to be ok. It got me here then I started to drive around and explore a bit. Coming back to my parking location I started hearing a belt squiling then I smelled it. Pop. It broke. It overheated and stopped charging before I could find a safe place to pull over. I popped the hood and climbed under and discovered the alternator belt broke. That was bad news but I carry tools and it looked relitively easy to fix. I called advance auto and they had a belt but no one that could get it to me, but after I said I could wait till they close and give the guy 20 dollars he agreed to bring it. So while I was waiting I thought i would go a head and loosen the alternator and be ready for when he arrived. Suprise, the whole alternator was wobbling in my hand. I thought maybe the bolt had broken but low and behold it had been heli coiled at some time in its life an managed to pull out and wear the hole larger. So that was it for me fixing it. I called the guy at advance and canceled the belt. I limped it to gas station and slept and waited for the mechanic who came in at 9am. Once he arrived and shook his head and told me he couldnt fix it today. He did recomend another station so I limped it again down the road to the next place. After a couple hours and sratcjing there head they were able to fix it but told me I really need to.have a machine shop work on it. Believe it or not this is the short version of this story and I was having terrible worries. I dont have much money, this camper is my home, I start a new job monday and wont get my first paycheck for 3 weeks. Scary stuff ill tell you.

Im im maryland. Im near bowie or upper marlboro. Im parked near a wawa store near my new job.

Wow , If you still there , (doubtful) And you got a problem like this Hit a welding shop and have them to weld a nut in, or on, that hole and make SURE all the battries are disconected completely before Any Welding is done. + AND - cables Off

That was a good idea about a welding shop. Have to remember that.

Drill the hole out and run a nut and bolt type set-up that fits tight... When your up and running find a junk yard, looking another alternator mount to replace the warn out one...

Everyone should keep an eye on their belts regularly and carry a spare(s) to prevent these situations... Also you have to thoroughly inspect your vehicles on a regular basis to be ahead of the little things that turn into big things fast...

Hang in there dude. Sometimes is storms before the blue sky opens up in front of you. Can you post some pics of the damage? It would help to ascertain a solution for you.
