From what I can gather, my circumstances aren't terribly unusual though how I got here might be a bit different. The short version is that I am losing my home and when looking at the wages I can realistically expect to earn and the ballooning rent in the area I have a vision of treading water for the rest of my life. At best!

So I started looking into options/alternatives, fell down the rabbit hole and ended up here.

The good news is that I have time to plan and prepare before I am forced to make the transition, so even though I am currently having to purge most of my belongings I keep in mind that it could be a lost less gentle.

In addition to this forum and related videos/channels on youtube, I have been reading a lot of lightweight hiking and "one bag" forums/blogs to retrain my thinking around more compact and multi-purpose belongings in addition to just having and wanting less of everything.

My plan is to live in an SUV, which is a big change, but I have a lot of experience with living in limited space and travelling extensively by car and bus and am confident I can manage it.

So, hello.

Welcome to the tribe!!! :-} Its a journey. Go for it... Your smart to figure this out while you have some time. When your not under pressure to make a decision now, you make better choices. That is the first step. Congrats!!! Keep moving forward. We are here for advice and support. Welcome Welcome :=}

Welcome! I am glad you have enough time to make a graceful transition. I think it will make a nice difference.

I'm also re-training myself to minimize and multipurpose. I realised the other day I have 8 pocketknives. That's fine in a house, but less so in a camper.

Welcome aboard jsana!
And Hello! right backatcha.

Hey, everyone. I am in a desperate situation here. I am stuck in Nashville without a licence and need help getting to the DMV to take the road test needed to get a full licence again. I don't know anyone here and don't know the area well and have already resorted to asking strangers in shops ... a few even offered to help but in the end blew off.

I know this is awkward and possibly inappropriate but I just don't know what to do. If anyone can helper has any ideas, please message me here.

Nashville has a bus system. I’d try that

Maybe hire an uber or lyft driver to take you there and let you take the test in their car? Just a thought.
