Hey,

Recently, I went down to the Gulf of Mexico to commemorate my best friends High School Graduation. During that time, beer flowed and good times were had. During that weekend, I cooked up some boil. Cajun style. This style of cooking is relatively easy and very CHEAP not to mention it is quite healthy as well. I plan to move to the Gulf so finding ingredients will be of ease all I have to do catch the fish!

Basically, here is what you do;

1.) Acquire a Suitable Pot- $20 at Kohls or Wal-Mart
2.) Find a boil seasoning at a local market. (I prefer cajun-style)
3.) Put 1- 1 1/2 inch of water in pot.
4.) Throw all Ingredients in the pot
5.) Put boil seasoning into pot at personal preference. Stir occasionally.
6.) Cook on medium to low heat on a propane stove for roughly 10-15 minutes
7.) Grab a beer
8.) Put on low simmer and enjoy!

This cost me roughly $40 because of the fish,crab and etcs.. it would have double that had I gone to a restaurant. It would have been $0 had I caught the fish myself.

Best Regards,

Jake

Jake, Sounds delish! I hope you're planning on sharing that experience with us at the RTR!

I recently made this recipe for my Uncle who was from LA and he loved it! It took him back to his childhood. It made the entire house smell wonderful! I didn't add as much fennel seed since I'm not a huge fan of it's flavor but the subtle flavor was awesome! We will be making the recipe again!

Got me wondering if this could be done in a thermos / thermal cooker.

I'm from south Louisiana, so we are always going out and catching our own crawfish. And when the shrimp season starts in May I'm going out trawling with my dad and I will be catching more shrimp than I know what to do with. After the season is over, I am planning on getting my first RV and hitting the road for a while.

@ Seraphim: I seriously doubt it (I'm not saying for sure you can't) but the way I've always done it and have seen it done, you need a very large pot and a outdoor propane burner. You could get away doing it in small batches on the RV stove but you would need a large soup pot to do it. Also you need to factor in all your "fixins" that go along with a seafood boil. Those include potatoes, corn on the cobb, sausage, onions, garlic, etc.
