RWD/AWD is there a way...

AWD was mostly on the 1500 express vans, but some AWD 2500s were made in 2003

if it doesn't say AWD it is probably not. a dealer would use AWD to get more money for it. all Chevy vans are RWD. highdesertranger

Yeah, when I did a search to find the mpgs for the 2500 it brought up a 2500 model with AWD for the example so that's what brought the question up. I don't know whether someone well-versed in vans can tell by looking at them, and am curious.

I can't tell by just by looking at the pic but I will tell you that van is only RWD off the VIN.  I work parts at a GM dealership and put the VIN into the cataloging software.   Here is the full RPO list for that particular van.

There is a badge on the back door. Stabiltrack or some other nonsense word. Its on all the 2500s I've ever been in, up until a year or so ago maybe. No awd on a new express, but you can get a +11,000 dollar diesel engine. Yay UREA!

AWD is great if you have inappropriate tires.

I'm not sure, but wouldn't the center diff be absent in the standard RWD? On our AWD you can easily see the center diff about 5 feet or so back from the front axle. And if you look on the back of a stock AWD Express there will be an emblem next to the Express emblem. We removed all ours but have plenty of DIY stickers so peeps know, that and the lift and oversize tires are a give away.

As for tires? Yup, good boots are nice to have. We run with all season-rated 80K warrantied radials, though will be going to e-rated mountain-snowflake stamped winter traction radials since we are only averaging about 6K a year and never get close to the ~50K estimated life on the winter tires so we might as well go with the softer compound. For us on the WET! Coast of Oregon, putting the softer traction tire compound on our FWD Toyota Echo turned the thing into a go-cart for grippiness!

Have fun shopping!
