Anybody here ever returned a solar panel under warranty? As far as I know the only thing warranted is the output. You'd have to have a laboratory to test that.

Talk to Jim in Denver. He hasreturned a few

Maybe Jim will jump in here.I have returned 2 panels myself, but that was for shipping damage.I'm just wondering what reason someone would have to return a panel under warranty.Supposedly it will void the warranty to cut the wire connectors off or drill a hole in the frame. Why?

Jim tests the output of panels all the time. He’s out camping in Q right now probably sitting at a roaring campfire. I’ll text him to look here

With a multi meter you can test the Voc. By setting the meter to DC voltage and checking across the pigtails. The Voc should be listed on the tag on the back of the panel.

Then you can switch to DC amps and test that too. That is listed as Isc on the same label.

When you test either have the panel aimed at the sun as best as possible and make sure that is sunny/ mid day. Also make sure that your multi meter can handle the amps listed or it will blow a fuse. Personally I prefer a clamp meter that does DC as it has much higher limits than one that test only off of the leads.

a lot depends on the company. i have known a few folks that sent back panels that had failed. only ones i know of were lower grade and or flex panels. youtube has several videos where they had some fail and worked with a manufacturer.

i personally have never had a panel fail on my rig or that i installed for someone else.

i am still using the first solar panel i ever bought back in 1997, and it was an old used panel that someone traded in when they upgraded after several years of use.
