This question is for those who have retired and those thinking about it.  As I grow closer to retirment, less than 1 year away, do you find yourself livng your dream?  Is retirement life what you expected?  For those approaching retirement, do you think everything is going to be as nice as you have dreamed it to be?

Retirement started out right with the wife and I traveling in a van. She got sick and we stayed home 'till she passed last year. I am working on getting back out there and was in Q this winter but came back home to get my shots and the van painted (it was starting to look derelict). I am just about to leave again. I miss traveling with her. Traveling by myself is not the most fun but a hell of a lot better than sitting around the house or going to work.

After I retired, I wondered how I ever had time to work. Retirement is great for the most part.

IME, the future is NEVER what you expect!

I always thought I would wind up in a little house with a garden in the woods somewhere. But here I am in a van with five houseplants in a tote. And - I'm content, with no regrets.

Jacque! I had the same idea!

This lifestyle is so much better than that dream.

Brian -- we may cross paths in the next couple of months. Wouldn't it be nice to visit without masks for a change?

I don’t know how I ever had time for anything. There just aren’t enough hours in the day and I keep thinking,”When do I get a day off?”

So far I'm having a hard time getting moving before noon, but the harder I try the later it gets. Yesterday I just got my morning walk done about 7PM, brushed my teeth and took a shower. I did 2 days worth of chores, trash, water and mail as I won't be home this next day. I did manage to go get stuck in 4' of blow sand, just could see the tops of the tires. I just dug down to the tire valves and aired down and let a bunch of kids think they pushed out the old man. I will get up early in the morning because I have somewhere I need to be for an appointment, guess we will see how it goes! I'm loving it but my wife is still working and hates all the attention I'm giving her, after the 15th of April my vaccine should be working well enough I can brave the crowds and go dock fishing more which should keep her happy! Some how I will will hopefully find a happy medium between fishing and getting stuck in the Samurai!

Truer words have never been spoken.

For me it's a loooonnng boring sunny Sunday afternoon that never, ever, ends... "Groundhog Day" everyday... Hate it... Wish I could get back to work...

I'm in my van up on the side of a mountain alone. Well maybe not totally alone.

I just took this pic 15 minutes ago. It's dusk and I had to take it through the side window of the van so the picture pretty much sucks. I didn't want to scare the deer.

Not exactly a vineyard in Napa Valley, but it will do

Heck, I got those overgrown grass munchers come straight up to my fenced off yard. My pooch won't stop growling at night because of the pests (glad he's not much of a barker).

I worked six days a week for 49-years, but now I work mornings only and I like it. I'm tired by noon and enjoy resting and tinkering with my van in the afternoons.

No, no, no. But that can change when I get my full pension plus retirement funds. I try not to imagine life in the future because it’s never what I expect.
