Hello! Was wondering if somebody could help me. I have a question about relay for auxiliary battery. Can my relay hook up to the top terminal of the car battery even if the alternator hook up is going to the side terminal of the car battery? Or do they both need to be hooked up to the same terminal on the car battery?

yes you can do it that way. the preferred method is to hook the relay straight to the alternator. but the battery works. highdesertranger

There is a fusible link in the wire from the battery to the alternator.  Connecting your wire to the alternator protects your wire from the full wrath of the battery in case of a short.  If connecting at the battery you want a fuse very close to the battery.  I have an inline maxifuse about 1 inch from the battery terminal.  If the fuse melts away leaving that wire flopping and dangling it is so short it cannot reach a grounded metal surface.
