Recommendations on portable flush toilets please

I bought a Thetford 2.6 gallon portable toilet a few months ago with the idea of being able to easily transport and dispose of it in any toilet.  I only got to starting to use it last month.  When I was going to dump it (thankfully in a motel bathroom where I could easily clean it), not only did I not aim well, but as I was dumping it, liquid waste came out of the air relief button (thus, a leak!) and the leak was even if I didn't press the button, so such a mess was created that I couldn't fully empty the tank.  I've been burned by Thetford, I'm seeking recommendations for another flush toilet, thanks (and this time probably a larger tank, like 5 gallon.)

It depends on what you are wanting to do. The Marine quality and MSR will do better.<br><br>All of them has holes in the top or else it will explode or put out gas when you open the valve.You will need to vent. The Marine grade has ways to close some of the holes. It also has change over for the spout.The change has a vent and a pumpout out like a boat. Great if you have a vacuum pumpout handy. The vent handles any smells after you closed the valve. Of course you will need an outside vent. <br><br>I have dumped them many times. Go slow and start level. Try not to get any splash on you. It took me several times not to make a mess. Flush the toilet right before you start pouring. First time it will help to have 2 people.<br><br>I always carried mine in a black garbage bag and asked permission before I dumped.

&nbsp;I've used Thetford porta pots for decades and have found them to be about the best in my price range. The only part that caused any trouble, after years of use, was the bellows water pump. ..Willy.

I did it the way it showed in the box. &nbsp;I don't believe that they can allow a leak like that, it makes it unusable! &nbsp;Having a usable toilet is important to me, otherwise it will make me rethink this whole idea of vandwelling.

I have bought a camping toilet, the type you flush and put chemicals in. I emptied it for the first time, which was ok... could have been worse but towards the end of emptying the smell was really not pleasant. Suggestions for improvement?

I also have a thetford I believe they&nbsp;have been&nbsp;designed to dump at rv dumps. I never tried in a regular toilet.&nbsp; btw I hate to use it, &nbsp;only&nbsp;when a necessity.&nbsp; highdesertranger

I have a Thetford (345 model?) toilet also, which I got from Camping World. I actually don't use the toilet, as it's really for my GF to use on camping trips. For me I use either the restrooms at a campsite, or an extra large pee bottle with a wide mouth. &nbsp;I keep the Thetford toilet lined with several layers of tall size kitchen plastic garbage bags. &nbsp;So after a usage, simpy peel off 1 or 2 layers of plastic bags and dump at the nearest place such as a restroom, etc. &nbsp;I have never actually used the flushing ability of the Thetford toilet, as I don't ever want to (gasp!) clean the darn thing. &nbsp;Using my system of multiple layers of plastic trash bags, I pretty much never have to clean the toilet. &nbsp;Just remove the soiled bags, and maybe wipe down the outer part of the toilet with a lemon scented wet wipe towel, which I have lots of.<br><br>

5 gallon bucket lined with plastic bags. dispose bags after each use. make a comfy seat if desired.

&nbsp;My Thetford, with the rotating dump nozzle, works great when dumping into a regular toilet. Just gotta get the nozzle close to the water and start 'easy' to prevent any splashing. I also don't use toilet chemicals, so dumping into the outhouse toilet at a Forest Service rec site isn't problematic.. though I'm still discrete about it. ..Willy.
