I'm in Quartzsite and I want to let you all know this place sucks.
It's all about money and cheating everyone on everything. Everything here is controlled for making money even taking a Sh*t is charged for.
When UI leave this dump I'm never coming back and I will influence anyone I have any influence over to avoid this place like the plague. There's nothing here but a bunch of hustlers who are after every nickle they can scrounge and it shows.
B-10 the big vandwellers campground has no monthly spaces now, only overnight at excessive rates! Screw them. I went to Macjackin the crack and was told a sausage mcmuffin gutbomb was a dollar more if you wanted an egg on it!
Screw these money grubbin clowns and their corrupt government. Wanna be taken?
Come to quartzsite. This place sucks and everything about it.
Do yerself a favor and don't come here.
How about 5.00 for a gallon of milk?
Jesus Christ, it's just milk. If you have more money then brains by all means come to this clip joint.

This place absolutely sucks shit!

Gary, I'm sorry you feel so negatively about Quartzsite. It is a resort area after all. The residents have a short period of time to make their living, each year. I expect to get gouged, for everything and anything, anytime I visit a resort area.

That said, I imagine most of us will bring in what ever we can carry with regards to food, etc.

any real shopping will be done in Blythe or Parker.
geez, Gary, i could say that about most of my favorite places. i absolutely LOVED Ft. Bragg, Ca. couldn't afford to buy an egg there, but like Cyndi said, it's a tourist area. i still had the easiest free parking, great dog beaches, an amazing artists community, and all of that that ocean :)

i had to be proactive, and bring in most of the food i wanted. i drove to the walmart in Ukiah to stock up.

i was not in the Q at its busiest, so it may have been more laid back because it was March, and the frenzy was over. the Beall's outlet there had the cheapest and best clothes i found on my whole trip. scored super well at the library for used books. i never paid a cent for camping.....what's that about?

sorry your experience has been so bad.....i can't wait to go back.....

when i have a bad experience with something, i share my experience with people with the understanding that it was my experience, and may be perceived as completely different by someone else. i am so glad i got to Quartszite before you, or, unduly influenced, i might have missed one of the better memories of my last trip.

or maybe....one of the saving graces of Vandwelleing is that we are not easily influenced. if i was, i would never have left my driveway :)

kate

wow
Quite a post for your 3rd post

Quartzsite is not for everyone, it it said all rv'ers should at least try it once. some like it, some (like you) do not. but now you know,
During the height of the RV show there are thousands of folks enjoying the area. With traffic jams and all, everyone seems to take it all in stride, there is no hurry to DO things.

I hope you find the perfect spot to stay all the time, (will help your mental heath)

For me Quartzsite is about living off grid,, meeting folks, enjoying the outdoors in warm weather, sharing stories, learning about stuff

Not staying in a Campground with rigs 5 ft apart, eating out at restaurants etc.

Hope you find the utopia of your dreams ..

Oh, and they do have a corrupt gov. but, I haven't seen one yet that is not ..

Putz

Hi Gary,

...From the pictures that I've seen, it looks like the RTR campground on BLM land is a distance from all the hubbub of city life. I know what you mean regarding the frustration of city life. It can be distressing. I look forward to seeing the sunsets and sunrises of the desert that I've never seen before. I'm especially looking forward to meeting all the helpful and fun people that I feel like I already know. I hope to meet you Gary, in the quieter and peaceful RTR campground.

Katie

I bring food and water in and buy next to nothing except gas while there. Last year there was a place that sold $1.00 hamburgers.
Quartzsite is a weird place. the first time i went i said i'd never go back, and i've gone every year since. i'm a swap meet freak, and the swap meet stuff (junk) is way overpriced. but i'm from soCal where swap meets are part of the culture, i expect deals. so i avoid that and stock up on jewelery making supplies. there's something for everyone, you just need to look around.

try the Slabs, maybe you'll like it there.....

Gary,

I appreciate your feelings about the town (city?) of Quartzsite. I too try to avoid going into town any time after the snowbirds begin entering into it (which is basically when I arrive . However, there are many great places to camp in the area. Also, one of the main reasons that I am in the area during this time of year is to see my buddies from last year and to make new ones at this year’s RTR.

The great thing about being around a bunch of cool people is that they enjoy helping others. I hung out with the RTR group for like 3 weeks last year and I don’t think I went into Quartzsite once. People were going into town every day and would pick me up tent stakes or oranges or whatever, simply because they are awesome people and were going to that store anyway.

Just buy some pizza for dinner or find some other way to return the favor. In fact, I think the exchange of favors may have even added some fun and friendship to the whole experience. I agree with you about not enjoying the town itself. But the people and places surrounding it are, in my opinion, really worth the trip. Food for thought.

-Dave F
Edit: Charlene's suggestion about not signing into the Dome Mountain area until the 10th is a good one. I was in that area about a month ago and the ranger stopped by twice to check that my permit had not expired.

For some reason, I am reaLLy bothered by the rants and raves in this thread. I'm going to ask Katie to move the portions of this thread that aren't aboUt arriving in Q to a "QUartzsite Rants n Raves" Thread.

Yes, I'm having probLems with a coUpLe of Letters. When I type certain Letters they caUse the UtiLity and accessabiLity Manager to take over my compUter. ARGH!!!!!

Good idea, Cyndi

Katie or Akrvbob, Let's start the New Year on a peaceful note.

When I read mountaintramp and DaveF's posts, I had to check and make sure I hadn't written them.
It's exactly how I feel also.
The first time I went to Q, I thought to myself, I will never come here again.
Everybody likes different things. I like trees and green stuff so the desert and hot sun doesn't appeal to me so much.
But-we return now for the people we have met at last year's rtr.
Yes, bring food and water with you. In fact, bring a little more and we'll all throw it in a big pot and see what happens. Pretty tasty and fun.
It's about 1500 miles for us and we're leaving in 5 minutes.
See ya there!

Nelda

@Butterfly I know where you live(not really), I may stow away so I can go too! Been to Quartzite several times, it was fun. The desert is wonderful. Get some pics of those little quails with fancy hats, Gambles quail maybe? They come out in little families and talk to each other.

@cyndi I am reaLLy bothered by the rants and raves in this thread Thank you! No need to rain on others parades.

@Nelda and everyone else taking off soon, be careful and enjoy!

Dragonfly

okey dokey! sometimes i amaze myself. i took a very simple suggestion from Cyndi, managed to make it very complicated, got thoroughly lost in the toolbox, found that moving posts can be like herding cats, got everybody but Nelda into the new topic...Nelda refused to be herded :)....and kept clicking on that pretty little "donate" button instead of "move these posts". THEN almost deleted the whole forum, or maybe the internet......

whew!

so i think i have gotten everything juggled about. let me know if i screwed anything up too much....

now i am really gonna go hit that pretty little donate button, to throw a couple dollars at Bob. i am so grateful for this place!

i should add that Nelda finally got herded :) you know how she gets......acting like a vandweller..... "i'll get there when i get there"

Nelda, she's one of a kind... It's taken Jerry years to get as far as he has with her... god bless you, Jerry!

See, Katie? You made it look so easy and then you blew it by telling us how you screwed up!

Thanks for fixing this for me, I am so much happier, now!

Thanks, Katie!

Katie...you rock... and that's a good thing. Guess Gary is happily (?) camped with a vandweller from IL.... at Hi Jolly. Hope they have a good time there.

Charlene

First day of a great new year... watched shooting stars and the International Space Station last night. Got farther away from I10 for tonight and really am enjoying Liz's company and the wilderness. There are no other campers near us. This is really a great place. Temp in the van was 60 degrees at 3am and I opened the rear door and slept the rest of the nite with clean fresh air. Marvelous. We made scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast this morning with Trader Joe green, yellow and red peppers and a side of cranberry sauce. I have laughed so much the last three days that my sides hurt. See you other RTRers soon.

I suppose I'm in the minority with the OP here but from what I gather like most things "RV" today it is aimed at the relatively wealthy retired couples with 500K diesel rigs, two large SS checks, a pension check or two, and a few hundred grand in the bank.

I just don't really have a desire to go be in tight giant crowds like I were in a human ant hill. In fact, that is kinda directly related to some of the main reasons I choose to live like I do....

$.02
