OK, got my transfer fitting with a cutoff valve in it.







With this shutoff valve it's easier to purge the bottles during refill.

So, is there any way to recycle the disposable canisters?

They will be set aside at recycling centers for scrap iron. If not they will be mined from land fills in a few centuries.

Many national parks have large wire bins set up for the collection and recycling of 1 lb propane bottles. Good places to pick up good ones with metal bases if you refill them.

Perhaps it comes to that once more people want to refill their own. I just buy a couple and take care of them if I can't get weekend campers that use them once a year to give me their empties.
