Good Job Jodi!
I personally would keep my own food preps instead of relying on roommates. You have no idea where you might be in 6 months or a year.......I agree tho that water will be the biggest issue. I keep plenty of water on hand now, and when I do get mobile I will make sure to always have enough to at least get back here or to get to others places that I know of situated around the country. I will always be within a day or two (hopefully) of someone who I know that will have enough water. I was a "doomsday" prepper for a while and then I had to come to grips that my faith is enough to see me through. I believe with all my heart that I will be alright. When it's time for me to "go" then it's just time. I am not afraid anymore. I am also Not a sheep!

Well, roommates are actually my kids dad and stepmom. LOL It just avoids a lot of questions by calling them roommates. I was moving to a bigger rental with my 15 and 19 and the other parents became suddenly homeless the weekend they were helping US move. So, naturally I invited them to join us and I charge them groceries for the house and internet, among other things. LOL It is actually working out so well that we have made it indefinite until Pete graduates. Then they all know that THEY all have to get a place and I am outta here! It's weaning everyone onto the four of them being the nuclear family and me being the "extra" parent. A nice change after doing it alone for so long. Anyway, in this case, I can definitely trust that they will stay and feed us. They cannot afford it on their own. I make the most $$ right now.

Back on topic: This situation makes it difficult for prepping. I don't have a specific plan of how much for how many people. I just stockpile anything I find cheap that we all will use or eat. Anything to help us pay less in the future. I am also paranoid about running out of things like allergy meds... or COFFEE!!! LOL

Wow! Jodi, you have one big heart! You should be so proud of yourself. Not that I mean selfishly but you sure have done such a wonderful thing. Sure makes me feel humble.
You're doing the right thing buy just keep buying things cheap that you will eat. The motto for prepping is buy what you eat and eat what you buy. Rotate, Rotate, Rotate.
There are many guidelines online on how much to have for how long you will need.
running out of Allergy meds is something I would probably be a little concerned about but NOT Coffee! I always have LOTS of it around!!!! LOL Hopefully someday we will run into each other (not literally of course) and we'll sit down over a very nice cup O' joe! :)
Looking forward to it!
Marsha

Oh gosh, I do stock up on toilet paper! Maybe I can trade it AND build a compound!

Don't worry about it.
Tent, sleeping bag, foraging manual(for the area you are in), fire, water.

Openminds, That's an interesting article. I had done some research on sustainable communities here in the US some time ago also.
Not real interested in that tho, too much of a loner I guess.

Lampliter, I keep a go bag that has those things in it plus my hammock. I'm kind of a fire queen so I have many ways to make fire.

I did decide to get a small storage unit for my food. It's very affordable at $35.00 a month so it's doable.
I have had some living arrangement changes but that's for another thread.
