I saw this portable 1,000 watt inverter advertised in an RV magazine. They have several different models available. The MSRP price for the 1000Wi model is $439.95.

Any opinions on this? The product specs says this inverter uses unleaded gasoline. But can you keep unleaded gasoline inside the inverter for an extended period of time? Would that be safe?

Casey

1000Wi

900 Watts continuous / 1000 Watts surge

Automatic low oil shutdown

Continuous run time at full load is 3.5 hrs; 1/4 load is 6.9 hrs

One 120 V, 20 A 5-20R Single

Built-in fuel economy switch

Convenient carry handle, weighs just over 32 pounds

EPA, CETL, CARB and ISO compliant

1-year consumer / 6-month commercial warranty

Perfect for the campground but powerful enough for the job site, the 1000Wi delivers stable, pure sine wave AC output, reliable enough to power even the most sensitive equipment. That is a generator not an invertor. Honda or Yamaha is the only brand of generator I would buy. Mainly Honda.

You can blow $450 an have nothing but headaches or you could save for another month and have years of bliss. I have owned a Honda 1000 for over 12 years with out a lick of issues. My son has it now and I have a 2000eu.

I built many a high rise and parking garage using Honda 5500, drop from cranes, ran over by backhoes, 8 saws running off them and never not once did I have one let me down.........ever. That is all I needed to see. Quality only hurts once.

Thanks guys. I just liked the compact size of the sucker. Yes, I'm sure the considerably larger Honda generators are much better quality, but I don't have the space to fit a generator that size. Is there such thing as a baby Honda generator?

Can only keep regular gasoline inside a generator for a month or so? What if it's a propane powered generator? Would propane inside a generator last longer versus regular gasoline?

Stabil fuel additive and you can keep the gas in the genie for a year. Another thing people don't think about is they run the engine dry. This make for a bad put up, because there are diaphrams and gaskets that need to have the fuel or they dry out and then your stuff doesn't run. Gas companies tell you gas goes bad in a month. I worked at many an oil refinery and never seen a born on date for any fuel they had. Plus, it sits in tank farms for god knows how long.

I probable have drank whiskey fresher then my gas and I like aged whiskey. lol

There are some multi fuel genies out there and Honda does have a model line, but I have not had any dealings with them. So I would be talking out of google not personal experience.

Do yourself a favor if you are looking at spending the money on a genie, get a Honda, best in the business barring none. $800-900 over my 12 years is less than $75 per year. That genie you have posted, if you got two years running it daily like you could with the Honda, you'd be lucky. So that would be $225 a year. Do the math. Plus, the Honda is 10 percent quieter, which in time means a lot.

Honda is smaller, lighter by 10 percent and quieter by 10 percent. Plus has more features and recps.

Honda specs. from wise sales $800.00

Brand

Honda

MPN

EU1000iA

Engine Type

Honda GXH50

Engine Displacement

50 cc

Starting System

Recoil

Ignition System

Electronic Ignition

Fuel Tank Capacity

0.6 gal.

Continuous Operation Time

3.8 hrs. @ rated load, 8.3 hrs. @ 1/4 load

Maximum AC Output

1000 Watts

Rated AC Output

900 Watts

DC Output

12V, 96W (8A)

Rated AC Current

120V 1000W max. I own a honda. 20 years ago I was camping al natural/boondocking and it stopped with a half a tank left I was puzzled. This old guy and his partner were camped some 100 ft away walked over and said "what's the matter sunny?" I explained and he simply said take the head of and clean it up so I removed the 4 bolts and took the head off the carbon was built up so high it kept the valves from opening, cleaned it and started on the first pull. I wish I still had my trusty vietnam era drop down from a Helicopter diesel single piston Generator. 80 pounds but worth every ounce.

Another recommendation for Wise Sales. I bought my EU2000 from them.

Some of these Chinese knock-offs are appealing because of their low price,
but these days my philosophy is "Buy once, cry once." Every time I've cut corners and taken the cheap way out on things, tools especially, I've always regretted it later.

RJCooper,

Oh dang, you're right! The Honda model is better in every way! For some reason, I had the mistaken idea that Honda only makes large size generators. Probably because that's all I ever see. I didn't realize Honda makes this portable model. Yes, I'd much rather pay $800 for a better generator versus $500 for a lower model!

Geez, now I'm tempted to get this!
http://www.wisesales.com/eu1000ia-h...ogleBase&gclid=CKy4y5upzbgCFUKe4AodZz8AFw

Can anyone answer this simple question?
What gasoline does this Honda generator take? Just the lowest grade gas (lead or unleaded)? What octane level if that matters? Assuming if it's not safe or advisable to store gasoline in a generator for more than a month, what is a better alternative?

Can I store some gasoline in a small gas container and kept inside a storage box when needed? Or is it also unsafe to store gasoline inside those special gasoline containers? I guess this question wasn't so simple after all, haha!

Also, assuming if I have the Honda generator full of gas, and I want to dump the gas out of the generator because I won't be using it for some time, is it possible to dump the gas out of the generator? Is there an outlet to dump the gas out in a safe manner?

Thanks,
Casey

Small engines want the highest octane gasoline. Best fuel is the non-alcohol stuff in a can. It lasts. Next best is pump gas with a stabilizer. Last choice is pump gas plain. Do not be tenmpted to use leaded fuel such as aviation gasoline.
I buy the canned gasoline at Lowes or in a pinch at Sears. When I am near home I get a 5 gallon can from my friend with the small engine shop. Expensive but so are my saws.

Oh... Do Not have gasoline in a glass container. You could be in a world of shit.

You can buy canned gasoline from Lowes or Sears that can be used in a Honda Generator? Very cool! Didn't know that was possible. I thought you have to go to a Chevron gas station to pump gas from a hose into the sucker.

Do you have any links for the canned gasoline for where to buy the stuff?

Also, is it possible to dump the gasoline out of the generator?

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-EF1000...amp;keywords=Honda+EU1000i+Inverter+Generator

I found this Yamaha 1000 watt generator. Can anyone tell positively if the Honda or the Yamaha is better? Any major pros or cons of either one? Price is about the same for both 1000 watt generators.

EDIT: I think I just answered my own question.
The Yamama generator says the following: DC Output (NO)
I think this means you can't plug in 12 volt appliances? If so, then forget it!

CAsey

People with hondas really like their honda. People with yamahas really like their yamaha.

To drain my EU2000, I will sometimes use a turkey baster to suck all the remaining gas from the tank, then loosen the little screw by the carb to drain it.

I'm having trouble finding canned gasoline that can be bought at Lowes or Sears for use in a generator. Anyone have a URL link?

Isnt canned fuel just stabilized gas??? Why not just buy stabil.....am I missing somthing?

I for warn on draining the tanks. Read up on the guys from Alaska and how they use, store and protect their Honda's. Even in the coldest conditions.

Regular unleaded gas is fine. I am not paying $7-8 a gallon of gas until I have too. Just was at lowes and Kerosene there is $7.50 a gallon.

Do as you wish, I never had an issue with running the glamour gas in anything. My Stihls, Honda's and Etecs are working just fine on pump fuel. But, what do I know running them everyday or often in some form or another.
