Abnorm,
That looks so much safer and cleaner. Great job. I'm sire it sets Carol's mind at ease knowing cooking isn't likely to fry the electrical system.

Wow, looking good. Hey, Carol, bet you're adoring it! :)

How long will you all be in the area? Was hoping to be there by now but have been delayed. Looking forward to seeing all the gem/rock booths!

Thanks Gntlstone and Maki....

Morefun.....AZ area til Spring...............Quartzsite NOW !

HDR.......Yea the round corners are nice BUT that was existing .....NOT my work.........I only re-did the wiring !

Now for the MOUSEVILLE portion of the program............

While camping at Craggy Wash a rodent got in the engine bay...........The van started really HARD and ran rough........Engine Code/light

MechanicMike checked the OBD........... revealed "engine cylinder temp sensor, etc .....or its wiring harness"........................!@#$%^

Location : Top-of-the-engine block..............I need to start the teardown.....Mike will arrive to Help on his day off

#1.jpg#2.jpg#3.jpg

Layer by layer the parts come off.....................That last photo shows the weird water jacket/manifold that needed OPENING (tape on the manifold to keep it clean)

#4.jpg

****.......some evidence of rodents !

#7.jpg#6.jpg#5.jpg

And then finally here's the sensor and scat....and chewed wires(he even chewed on the plug!)....and a "nest" in the factory-installed Filler material

No photos of the fix............I cut the old harness and soldered new wires with lots of heatshrink........the Re-install was uneventful

The only actual out-of-pocket parts expense was a gallon of coolant .......we had to open the system to remove the air intake manifold....FORD routes the Cabin Heater water thru the manifold to the rear of the engine ..................Kudos to Mike

A stranger/neighbor worried about the harness took it upon himself to drive to Ford and order the replacement harness.......of course the repair was already finished when he returned........Now I have a spare harness if-need-be.....$20

2017 Ford Transit................93,000 miles.........First time the engine needed work !!!!!

Dang, what damage they can do !

So will you be investing in extreme measures to keep the varmints out?

Moth balls, deterrent sprays, traps, light strings or strobe lights maybe?

Sounds like Craggy Wash has rodent troubles, I heard that Hi Jolly does as well. Of course the truth is they are pretty much everywhere in the world except the frozen poles. We certainly had them in Puget Sound, Norwegian grey rats as well as mice, voles, etc.

Talcon paid the price......WARNING us of the pack rat problem........in the process spending $$$ for a wiring harness/install.............

......and we laughed our-*****-off over at Amy's...

In our camping spot last year a rat got in her rig and stole her DENTURE.....just ran off into the desert....never to be seen again !

I was the canary in the coal mine!

And then I run across this story lol. Was it Amy’s?

“At the Fort Bowie National Historic site, a set of false teeth found in a pack rat nest is on display.”

You know the pack rats are thick (and big) when they steal your teeth.   ~crofter

Denture stealing rats. Who knew they needed false teeth, I thought they could grow new ones if theirs wore out ;)

all pirate ships have rats and they come ashore into camp along with their captain. Naturally they get into causing mayhem and stealing, they are in a pirate camp. Just following their role models. But better than living the life of a poor pious church mouse not much to eat there except the electrical wiring.

Interesting side note - did you know that polydactyl cats were prized among sailors for their climbing and rodent hunting abilities aboard ship? They were often given as gifts and even thought to bring good luck.

Boy that looks wayyyyyy better. Bet she’s pleased as punch!

^ Hi Camilla.....Carol's got more to do in her Van but separating the Kitchen and it's "Clean-up"..... from the Electrical/Wires was a big step

Safe travels to Q......YARC camp is unoccupied and awaiting your arrival......It's COLD here......Paulette's busy "Yarning".............

...............Thanks Tex........... " I think I saw a puutty cat "

Debra from Colorado came looking for "PirateCamp" at Lake Havasu City.......She arrived during the RAT adventure so she was amused/entertained/delayed

She arrived in a nice Tall Transit van.........already customized as a "Prototype" for an Ambulance Company Adventure/Conversion Van...she had removed some plastic panels to provide room for the cabinet

It lacked storage space for a full-timer......I usually work in "boards" without a tablesaw......She had her mind set on BIRCH plywood & Faceframes

#deb1.jpg

I tried out the simple KREG system (angled holes on the backside) to join the solid wood faceframes.......NO visible surface fasteners.....Blind glue and screws

#deb2.jpg#deb3.jpg

Long 'straight' wood pieces guided my old Circular saw.....1/2" ply glued/stapled.......The box need a deep bottom to hide the existing wires and plumb the box....even a "DutchMan" to fix the bad cut

#deb4.jpg

With all the supports added the fraceframe gets glued/screwed and blind-nailed to the case......It's tight and smooth but the case is rough joined...molding hides the problems

#deb5.jpg

And FINALLY ....for now.....the cabinet is hung in-place using Riv-Nuts and Bolts......She needs a Christmas Miracle for her DOORS !
